Butler PoliceTuesday — Hunter S. Dittmer, 18, of Butler was charged with having marijuana and other contraband during a search last week on South Monroe Street.Police said they found Dittmer about 1 p.m. hanging out in the city’s Clay Hills area. They stopped and questioned him for trespassing on railroad property, according to court documents.An officer searched a book bag the teenager had with him and found a bag of suspected marijuana and other items, including a scale, marijuana grinder and rolling papers.Dittmer is charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.Tuesday — Nicholas R. Hainer, 25, of Butler died a week after suffering an apparent heroin-related overdose at the Dunkin’ Donuts shop on North Main Street.Police about 4:15 p.m. March 7 found Hainer facedown on the floor after city firefighters forced open the locked door of the men’s bathroom. He was unconscious and not breathing.Paramedics performed life-saving techniques on the man before he was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital and placed on a ventilator. He apparently remained on the respirator until his death.Police said officers recovered an empty stamp bag of suspected heroin, a used syringe and metal spoon in the bathroom.Monday — An arrest warrant was issued for Jack Jay Fleming, 42, stemming from a weekend domestic dispute at his home on Morton Avenue. Police were called to the home about 9:15 p.m. Sunday after the altercation.Fleming’s girlfriend, Margaret Winters, told police that the suspect placed his hands around her throat and began to strangle her, according to court documents. She said he also hit her.Police said Winters suffered minor injuries including redness around the chest and throat, and bruises and cuts to the arms.Fleming is charged with simple assault.7:44 p.m. Saturday — James A. Cozin Jr., 18, of Butler allegedly struck another man several times in the face and head at a home in the 300 block of Virginia Avenue.The victim, Raymond Miller, had bruises and cuts to the face and head, court documents said.Cozin is charged with simple assault.

Butler County DetectivesMonday — Maximillian W. Halterman, 21, was charged with having illegal steroids and hypodermic needles at his home on Beacon Light Road in Penn Township earlier this month.Halterman’s county probation officer found the items during a home compliance check March 2. The officer notified detectives.Among the items seized were two vials of clear liquid labeled as testosterone. Authorities identified the liquid as anabolic steroids, which are synthesized male sex hormones that promote muscle mass.Also found and recovered were “multiple needles and syringes” that were marked “for veterinary use only” with the vials, according to court documents.Halterman is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

State Police, ButlerMarch 7 — Dennis M. Jones Jr., 29, of Donegal Township was charged with being more than twice the state’s legal limit for alcohol stemming from a two-vehicle crash last month in Oakland Township.Police said Jones’ car about 8:45 p.m. Feb. 20 ended up in a yard along Route 68 following the collision. He smelled of alcohol and appeared to be impaired. He admitted he had consumed four to five beers earlier in the day, according to court documents.He was arrested after failing field sobriety tests and was taken for a breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.165 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.In addition to driving under the influence, Jones is charged with failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes, driving at an unsafe speed and careless driving.

State Police, Franklin5 p.m. Monday — Tyler J. Coast, 31, was arrested after being caught with suspected drug contraband during a visit by a state parole agent at his home on Cokain Road in Irwin Township. He faces a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.Coast was placed in the Mercer County Jail in connection with his parole violation that stems from a 2016 conviction for causing an accident involving injury while not properly licensed, court records showed.March 1 — Police issued nine traffic tickets to an 80-year-old Venango County man in connection with a one-vehicle wreck last month in Irwin Township. The crash happened about 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28 when William G. Sterrett of Kennerdell lost control of his pickup truck and struck a utility pole.The truck, after hitting the pole, continued for another 200 feet before getting stuck in a swampy area on the side of the road.Sterrett was cited for hit-and-run, failing to immediately notify police of an accident, abandoning a vehicle on the road, driving without insurance, failing to carry a signed vehicle registration card, driving at an unsafe speed, driving on the wrong side of the road, careless driving and littering on a road.

State Police, Mercer5:43 p.m. Wednesday — An Erie County trucker lost control of his rig and slid into a ditch, hitting a culvert pipe along Marstellar Road in Fairview Township, Mercer County. The tractor-trailer sustained damage to its undercarriage and had to be towed.Police cited David J. Parrett, 41, of Corry for disregarding traffic lanes.7 p.m. Tuesday — Brandon M. Bickerton, 27, of Greenville was arrested on a felony charge of strangulation following a domestic dispute at a home in Sandy Lake Township.Police said Bickerton strangled a 24-year-old woman, causing an unspecified injury. He also is charged with misdemeanor assault and summary harassment. He was placed in the Mercer County Jail on $25,000 bail following arraignment.
