Latrobe bounces Planets
Noah Raymundo scored a hat trick for Mars, but it wasn't enough.
Greater Latrobe scored four goals in the third period in coming from behind to defeat the Planets, 5-4, in PIHL Class AA first-round playoff action Monday night at the Nevin Arena.
Raymundo's goals had staked Mars to a 3-2 lead 2:20 into the final period. Keaton Hanna and Tyler Grau had two assists each on those tallies.
But the Wildcats scored two goals 1:28 apart midway through the final period to get even and take the lead. Jared Schimizzi scored the game-tying goal and assisted on the go-ahead goal by Cory Gates.
Schimizzi added another goal with just over six minutes remaining. Nick Kiefer got Mars close by scoring with 48 seconds left.
Gates had a pair of goals for Latrobe. Grau wound up with three assists for Mars.
In PIHL Class A action, Freeport was eliminated with an 8-2 first-round loss to Thomas Jefferson. No other details were available.
