Body identified as missing studentPITTSBURGH — Authorities say a body found in the Ohio River near Pittsburgh has been identified as that of a Duquesne University student missing since January.Officials in Allegheny County said the body was reported just before 9 a.m. Monday about 30 feet from the Groveton Boat Club in Robinson Township.Police chief Dale Vietmeier said the county medical examiner’s office had identified the body as that of 23-year-old Dakota James, who had been missing since Jan. 25.

Official: Legal pot would reap taxesHARRISBURG — Pennsylvania’s elected fiscal watchdog says the state government could help its chronic budget deficit by raking in tax revenues from the legalization of recreational marijuana.Auditor General Eugene DePasquale said Monday the state could bring in $200 million or more annually, based on what has occurred during legalization in Colorado.A Pittsburgh newspaper reported that DePasquale, a Democrat, calls the legalization of recreational marijuana something that “can be both good socially and fiscally.”Pennsylvania has legalized medical marijuana and is in the process of setting up a system to grow, sell and regulate it.

Video shows child pushed down stepsUPPER DARBY — Authorities have charged a day care worker with simple assault after a newly installed video camera captured her pushing a child down a flight of steps.Upper Darby police say 52-year-old Sarah Gable of Folcroft was fired soon after the owners of Child Care of the Future saw what happened Friday. The video shows Gable pushing the girl down four flights of steps before she apparently realized there was a camera and then she helped the child down the next flight of stairs.The child sustained a knee injury and returned to the day care.Gable also is charged with child endangerment.
