Grove City swimmers shine in D-10

Rockwell Pokrant made the most of his final trip to the District 10 Class AA Swimming Championships.

Grove City’s senior swam to first-place finishes in the boys 200-yard individual medley (1:58.73) and the 100 butterfly (50.84) at the event, which took place Friday and Saturday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

The butterfly title was Pokrant’s second straight in that event.

He also teamed with Marcus Swartfager, Devin Reynolds and Will Rastatter to win the 200 freestyle relay in a district-record time of 1:25.64.

Swartfager earned two titles of his own, winning the 50 freestyle outright (21.33) and tying Franklin’s Connor Rakow for the top spot in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.13.

Rastatter, Reynolds, Ben McKnight and Charlie Nesbit captured gold in the 200 medley relay with an effort of 1:38.22.

The Eagles were the district’s defending Class AA team champions. The only team to top them in the standings this year was Cathedral Prep, which was bumped down from Class AAA this season.

In the girls’ meet, Grove City’s Emma Wilson placed first in the 50 freestyle (23.99).

Slippery Rock senior Mari Reott gained an automatic bid to the state meet by placing second in the 100 backstroke.

Reott, Tabitha Donaldson, Taylor Shaner and Barbie Cessar teamed up to place fourth in both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays with school-record times of 1:55.38 and 3:46.86, respectively.
