Butler Police12:30 p.m. Friday — Brandon Scott Smith, 28, no known address, was arrested after he led police on a foot chase.A patrol officer, who knew Smith was already wanted on an arrest warrant, noticed the suspect at East Jefferson and Monroe streets. But when the officer called for Smith, he took off running, according to court documents.The defendant ran north on North Monroe Street and then east on St. Paul Street. He managed to climb a fence and elude police, but not for long. Another officer got there and found him in front of a home on College Street.The officer ordered Smith onto the ground, but he refused. Police eventually took him down. He was searched, documents said, and found with a hypodermic needle and two crack pipes.Smith was arraigned on a charge of resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia.He also was arraigned on felony charges of access device fraud and receiving stolen property, stemming from the arrest warrant issued Dec. 1. In that case, Smith is accused of using three stolen bank and debit cards to purchase nearly $1,000 in merchandise from several city stores.Following arraignment, he was placed in Butler County Prison on $8,500 bail.

Butler Township Police9:53 p.m. Saturday — Two people were hurt in a two-vehicle wreck at Whitestown and Duffy roads. The crash happened at a traffic light where Patricia Demerecz, 78, of Evans City turned in front of the other vehicle.Demerecz and the other driver, Melissa Wilfong, 38, of Butler, both were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. Police cited Demerecz for a red light violation.6:27 p.m. Saturday — Sarah K. Barkley, 28, of Butler was found with a syringe after she was caught at the Butler Commons’ Walmart, where she had been barred due to a shoplifting incident in April 2015.Barkley is charged with possession of a controlled substance and defiant trespass.1:10 p.m. Feb. 20 — Stephanie Ann Barron, 39, of Butler was caught allegedly shoplifting at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. Police said she was seen placing unpaid merchandise, valued at $34.80, in her purse.Barron, who has at least two prior shoplifting convictions, is charged with a felony count of retail theft.Police also cited her for defiant trespass because the store had previously advised her that she was not permitted there.

Slippery Rock PoliceMonday — Police charged a Beaver County woman with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop Feb. 17 on West Cooper Street near South Main Street.The suspect, Alexia C. Fehir, 23, of New Brighton, was pulled over about 2 a.m. after she stopped her sport utility vehicle in the middle of the road as other people approached it to talk with the occupants.Police said the SUV sat there for “an extended period” during which traffic began to back up.Fehir had a “strong odor” of alcohol coming from her and appeared impaired, according to court documents. She was arrested after failing field sobriety tests.A breath test subsequently showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.112 percent, documents said. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.In addition to driving under the influence, Fehir is charged with failing to use turn signals, disregarding traffic lanes and making an improper stop.

Butler County DetectivesFeb. 21 — A Fayette County man was caught red-handed trying to cheat on a drug test at the Butler County Adult Probation Office in Butler.A probation officer discovered the suspect, Brian K. Martin, 36, of Masontown, trying to pour urine from a clear bottle into the sample container, according to court documents.Martin is charged with attempting to furnish drug-free urine.

State Police, ButlerTuesday — Edward R. Harold, 28, of Center Township, a convicted sexual offender, was arrested on charges he failed to comply with registration requirements under the state’s version of Megan’s Law in February. U.S. Marshals Service officers caught him in Butler.Harold was later arraigned on three felony charges of failing to provide accurate information to state police. He was placed in Butler County Prison on $30,000 bail.Thursday — Patrick B. Goettler, 26, of Center Township was charged with drunken driving stemming from a January traffic stop in Butler. Police said they stopped Goettler’s car about 12:10 a.m. Jan. 15 near West New Castle Street and North Sixth Avenue after it speeded past a trooper’s cruiser without rear lights.Goettler smelled of alcohol and appeared impaired, according to court documents. He admitted to drinking earlier that night. In plain view, police said, they noticed a suspected drug-smoking pipe in the center console.A subsequent search of the car also turned up a vitamin bottle with a baggie of marijuana in it, documents said.Police eventually took Goettler in for a breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.201 percent, or more than 2½ times the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit.In addition to driving under the influence, he is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, driving with an open container of alcohol, driving an at unsafe speed, driving without working rear lights and careless driving.Thursday — Raymond C. Robinson Jr., 21, of Butler Township was charged with drugged driving in connection with a traffic stop last month in Butler. He was stopped about 2 a.m. Feb. 6 on Route 8 south for having an expired registration.Police said Robinson, who appeared to be under the influence, admitted to smoking marijuana four hours earlier. A consent search of the car, documents said, led to the discovery of a baggie of marijuana and a marijuana pipe that were inside a gym bag in the trunk.The suspect was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results subsequently revealed the presence of marijuana and benzoylecgonine, which is a metabolite of cocaine, in his system. His blood-alcohol level was .027 percent.Robinson is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol, possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, driving an unregistered vehicle, careless driving and not wearing a seat belt.Thursday — Police charged a Beaver County man with DUI stemming from a traffic stop last month in Butler. Shawn M. Hickman, 43, of New Brighton was pulled over about 1:30 a.m. Feb. 17 at North Monroe and Brady streets.Police said they stopped Hickman for not using his turn signals. The suspect, who showed signs of being intoxicated, according to court documents, acknowledged having consumed alcohol that night.A breath test later showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.179 percent.Hickman is charged with DUI, driving an unregistered vehicle, failing to use turn signals, driving without insurance, driving without valid inspection and careless driving.

State Police, Mercer12:22 p.m. Feb. 19 — Cheryl F. Hawkins, 61, of Stoneboro was arrested on felony assault charges after she allegedly kicked and punched a nurse and a trooper at Grove City Medical Center.Police said Hawkins had been taken to the hospital to be examined for injuries following a car crash on the 800 block of Jackson Center Polk Road in Worth Township, Mercer County.She is charged with two counts each of aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct, as well as driving under the influence, public drunkenness, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.She was placed in Mercer County Jail on $50,000 bail following arraignment.
