Lenten season begins
The Rev. Mark Pattock applies ashes to a parishioner today at the Ash Wednesday service at St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman. Ash Wednesday is mostly observed by Catholics and opens Lent, a season of fasting and prayer.
