Volunteers needed for Jeep festival

The Friends of the Bantam Jeep Association is looking for volunteers for the seventh annual Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival in June.

The association is looking for 32 volunteers, ideally from three nonprofit organizations, to help with traffic control and the washing of Jeeps.

“We’re looking for help, and not only to have their support, but we want to support them through the financial contributions we can do,” said festival director Patti Jo Lambert.

Lambert said because of the success of last year’s festival, some of the nonprofits that help with this year’s festival will be compensated up to $2,000. Lambert said the compensation figures depend on the amount of help each nonprofit provides.

The festival is from June 9 to 11, and volunteers would work for about 22 hours across the three days. For safety reasons, Lambert said, the association is exclusively asking for adult volunteers.

Typically, the festival has around 400 volunteers, which Lambert said isn’t enough. She said the association is willing to be flexible regarding the number of volunteers per nonprofit, but needs at least 10 per nonprofit.

“Really, we want to support nonprofits, so it could be Rotary groups, church groups ... it could be service organizations or fire departments,” she said.

While ideally about 20 people would assist with traffic control, 12 volunteers would work to hose down the tires of Jeeps so they wouldn’t track mud on the roads.

“We want to be good neighbors,” Lambert said.

Nonprofit organizations interested in providing volunteers for the festival should contact the association at info@bantam.org.
