City Council fires police sergeant

A Butler City police sergeant was fired Thursday for misconduct.

Sgt. William Mayhugh, an anonymous source confirmed, was the officer terminated for misconduct in a motion passed by a 3 to 2 vote at the Butler City Council meeting at the city building.

Mayhugh, president of Fraternal Order of Police 32, had no comment. Butler Police Chief Ron Brown also had no comment.

Mayor Tom Donaldson called for the motion on Mayhugh, whom he referred to as “Butler City Police Officer Badge No. 1408,” for “misconduct and violation of policy.”

Donaldson and councilmen Kenny Bonus and Corey Roche voted in favor of the motion, while councilman Michael Walter and councilwoman Kathy Kline voted against it.

The decision followed a private executive session held by city council. None of the council members nor the mayor had any comment on the matter.
