BIG BEND UNITED METHODIST

Emlenton area churches will hold a traditional Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Big Bend United Methodist Church, 945 Highlands Road, Emlenton.

The Allegheny-Clarion Valley Ministerium series of Sunday evening Lenten services will begin at 7 p.m. March 5 at Emlenton United Methodist Church, 1303 Kerr Ave. Extension. Nick Cirell of St. Michael the Archangel Church will lead the service.

There will be an offering for the FISH Food Cupboard.

The Rev. Gene Lenk will be the host pastor. For more information, call 814-229-8900.

CHRIST COMMUNITY UNITED METHODIST

Wheelchair escorts of Christ Community United Methodist Church, 205 N. Duffy Road, will meet at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at VA Butler Healthcare.

A pancake and sausage dinner will be at 5 p.m. Sunday. Game night will begin at 6 p.m.

The youth group will meet at 6 p.m. Sunday.

CHRIST OUTREACH

Christ Outreach Church, 120 Walker Ave., will have Vision Sunday after the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service. The pastor will present a new vision for the church’s future during a pizza with the pastor session. Questions and concerns will be addressed. There will be an alternate session with the pastor at 7 p.m. Sunday.

COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN

Covenant Presbyterian Church, 230 E. Jefferson St., will have a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper and silent auction from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the assembly room.

The monthly cleaning day will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The noisy offering will be received during the Sunday worship service. The offering will support the Refreshing Springs Ministry in Aliquippa.

FIRST BAPTIST

The women’s missionary fellowship of First Baptist Church, 221 W. New Castle St., will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Baptist youth center.

The church will have an all-church potluck dinner and game night beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday at the youth center. Take a dish to share, a two-liter bottle of soda and a favorite game.

Sunday’s service schedule will include Sunday school and worship services at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The Deaf Café will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the youth center. Take your own lunch. There will be fellowship, a devotional and a guest speaker.

FIRST ENGLISH LUTHERAN

The Toddler Frolic meeting will be during Sunday school at First English Lutheran Church, 241 N. Main St.

There will be a pancake dinner from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Shrove Tuesday.

Ash Wednesday events will include imposition of ashes from noon to 1 p.m. outside, weather permitting; family-friendly ashes and prayers from 5 to 5:30 p.m.; and Holy Communion with imposition of ashes at 7:30 p.m.

GRACE @ CALVARY LUTHERAN

Grace’s Closet, a free clothing bank at Grace @ Calvary Lutheran Church, 123 E. Diamond St., will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The Rev. Sarah Lee-Faulkner, assistant to the bishop, will lead the fourth Sunday Study from 9 to 9:45 a.m. in the room across from Grace’s Closet. The topic will be the state of the church and activities locally and globally.

The Shrove Tuesday pancake dinner will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the social hall. The talent show will follow dinner.

Ash Wednesday imposition of ashes will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

GRACEWAY

GraceWay meets at the Center Township Elementary School on Mercer Road.

Jason Ellenberger, Mary Ann Mahan and Edith McCandless will provide special music during the Sunday worship service.

HILL UNITED PRESBYTERIAN

The youth hand chimes group will play at the Sunday worship service of Hill United Presbyterian Church, 501 Second St.

Sunday is the deadline to register for the Butler Little Theatre event.

There will be no Wednesdays on the Hill activities due to the 7:30 p.m. Ash Wednesday community service. The Lord’s Supper will be celebrated by intinction. Paula Baptiste will direct the combined choirs who will meet at 6:30 p.m. for rehearsal.

MARS UNITED PRESBYTERIAN

The Rev. Terry Stoops will lead the 8:30 a.m. service and the Rev. William Jackson will lead the 11 a.m. service Sunday at Mars United Presbyterian Church, 232 Crowe Ave., Mars.

There will be an appreciation luncheon for the interim pastors after the 11 a.m. service in the fellowship hall.

GriefShare will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the board room and deacons will meet at 7 p.m. Monday.

The Ash Wednesday service with Communion will be at 5 p.m.

MERIDIAN UNITED PRESBYTERIAN

Meridian United Presbyterian Church, 4150 Highland Ave., will observe Holy Communion at the Sunday worship service.

The sewing group will meet at 10 a.m. Monday.

The Sarah Elizabeth Circle will meet at 1 p.m. March 2.

OAK HILLS CHRISTIAN CHURCH

The Rev. Ashley Stansfield from Manchester, England, will assume the role of pastor of Oak Hills Christian Church, 100 Township Line Road. His first service will be Sunday. There will be a light luncheon following the service.

OLD UNION PRESBYTERIAN

Old Union Presbyterian Church, 200 Union Church Road, Mars, will have a Shrove Tuesday pancake dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. A brief devotional activity will follow dinner.

A four-week children’s club will begin March 21. To help, sign up in the lobby.

The summer mission trip will be Aug. 6 to 12 to Lewisburg, W. Va., to help rebuild flood-damaged Greenbrier County.

RIDER LUTHERAN CHURCH

Rider Lutheran Church, 189 Rider Church Road, West Sunbury, will have a 6 p.m. potluck dinner and a 7 p.m. Ash Wednesday service Wednesday.

The choir will practice at 6 p.m. March 2.

SAINT ANDREWS UNITED PRESBYTERIAN

Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Jefferson St., will have board games, fun for all ages, pizza and beverages at 6 p.m. Friday in the memorial room. Take a snack or dessert to share.

Lent will begin with a community Ash Wednesday service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hill United Presbyterian Church, 501 Second St.

The Deacons will clean the Bethany Room kitchen from 9 to 11 a.m. March 4. To participate, take a bucket and cleaning supplies.

To bake cookies for the reception after the March 8 Lenten service, sign up in the narthex or see Carol Landis.

SPRINGDALE LUTHERAN

The Friendly Fellowship Group will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at Springdale Lutheran Church, 1061 Mahood Road, West Sunbury. Take scissors.

The church basement will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday to receive donations for the rummage sale.

Guest lay minister Bill Oehlischlager III will lead the Sunday worship service.

The free workshop, “Sharing Your Faith,” will be at 9:45 a.m. Sunday. The workshop will consider why people believe what they believe.

The Ash Wednesday service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN

St. John’s Lutheran Church of Connoquenessing, 100 Main St., Connoquenessing, will celebrate Ash Wednesday with a joint parish service at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

ST. JOHN’S REFORMED

St. John’s Reformed Church, 494 Evans City Road, will have family movie night at 7 p.m. Friday. Adults will meet upstairs and children, in pajamas, will meet downstairs. Snacks will be provided.

ST. MARK'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN

St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., will observe Transfiguration weekend with Holy Communion at the Saturday and Sunday worship services.

Eve Bible study will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the church lounge.

The sanctuary choir will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays during the Lenten season.

The Ash Wednesday service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The service will include Holy Communion and imposition of ashes.

SS. PETER AND PAUL UKRAINIAN ORTHODOX

SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 21 Evergreen Drive, Lyndora, will have great vespers at 5 p.m. Saturday.

There will be a Sunday forgiveness service at 9:45 a.m. and the Divine liturgy will be at 10 a.m.

TRINITY LUTHERAN

Trinity Lutheran Church, 120 Sunset Drive, Center Township, will have Fastnachts and Fellowship at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the fellowship hall.

Ash Wednesday services will be at noon and 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The monthly women’s Bible study will be at 10 a.m. March 2.

VALENCIA PRESBYTERIAN

Valencia Presbyterian Church, 80 Sterrett St., Valencia, will host a 7:30 p.m. Ash Wednesday service.
