Man dies of suspected OD

3 incidents investigated

A 48-year-old man died Tuesday night of a suspected heroin-related overdose at a Butler house, authorities said.

The death comes a day after a woman was rushed to Butler Memorial Hospital after suffering a near fatal overdose at a city home.

And just today, about 8:15 a.m., county dispatchers were notified of yet another reported overdose on Negley Avenue in Butler’s Island neighborhood. No information was available about this morning’s incident.

A Butler Fire Department medical crew shortly after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday was first to get to the home in the 200 block of Fifth Avenue where a woman called 911 to report an apparent overdose there.

Firefighters found Jeffery J. Lindgren of Connoquenessing Township unconscious and not breathing.

“He had no pulse,” said Butler Fire Lt. Don McCoy.

Lindgren was reportedly visiting the woman who lives at the house, authorities said. Several other guests were also there.

The woman told emergency crews that Lindgren was a “known heroin user and that he may have relapsed,” McCoy said.

Paramedics administered a dose of the heroin and opioid antidote Narcan, and immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation. They also used a bag-valve mask to establish an airway.

A Butler Ambulance Service crew soon got there to help.

“We did chest compressions for 25 minutes,” McCoy said. But Lindgren never regained consciousness.

Butler County Deputy Coroner Larry Barr pronounced him dead. An autopsy was planned tonight.

Police also are investigating an apparent overdose Monday night at an apartment in the 600 block of West Penn Street.

Alicia Bures, 30, of Butler was visiting an acquaintance at the home about 7:15 p.m. when she passed out.

The acquaintance started CPR until crews arrived. Medics gave her two doses of Narcan but she remained unresponsive. She was taken to Butler hospital. Her condition was not known.

City police are investigating the suspected overdose cases.
