Butler indoor girls defend TSTCA title

The 3,200-meter relay team of Erin LeMay, Maggie Welty, Emma LeMay and Liz Simms shattered their own school record by nine seconds with a time of 9:42.13 as the Butler girls indoor track and field team repeated as TSTCA champions Saturday.

The Golden Tornado finished with 72 points. Hempfield was second with 69½ in the meet held at Edinboro University.

Alexis Leech also set a school record in the 400 with a time of 57.33. She broke the mark of 58.2 set by Krystal Epps in 2003.

Welty also broke a school record in the mile with a time of 5:19.95.

The Butler 1,600-meter relay team of Shana Hoy, Simms, Maddie Tonini and Leech also placed first.

On the boys side, Noah Beveridge was the highest placer, finishing third in the mile with a time of 4:29.10.

Seneca Valley also had a record-setter.

Senior Ryan DeBoer threw 51-9½ in the shot put to break his own school record.

Slippery Rock at YSU meet — Brady Dalton won the girls 60-meter hurdles with a school-record time of 9.28 as three indoor marks fell for the Rockets.

Sierra Nagy broke the school record in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 1½ inches.

That was also good enough for first place.

Nagy was also third in the 60 hurdles.

On the boys side, Ryan Putorti eclipsed a school mark in the 400 with a time of 53.49

Girls Basketball

Abby Fulkerson scored 15 points and also added 10 rebounds, but the Grove City High girls basketball team saw their season end in a 47-30 loss at Warren in the District 10 5A playoffs Saturday afternoon.

Grove City (9-14) led 6-3 after the first quarter, but Warren (18-5) went on a run to take a 21-10 lead into halftime.

The deficit stayed at 11 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Dragons pulled away.

Hannah Santom added 12 points for the Eagles.

Warren will play Slippery Rock at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Mercer High School.
