Rockets defused in Erie

Slippery Rock bows out of D-10 playoffs

Nick Wherthy scored 15 points as the Slippery Rock boys basketball team hung with Strong Vincent for a half before falling 81-47 in the District 10 4A playoffs in Erie.

The Rockets (5-18) trailed 19-14 at the end of the first quarter and 36-26 at the half, but Strong Vincent (20-3) roared out of the gate in the second half, outscoring Slippery Rock 45-21 in the final 16 minutes.

David Morris scored 25 points to lead Strong Vincent.

He spearheaded the second-half charge.

Ryan Dutton scored 11 points and Luke Brandon added 10 for Slippery Rock.

Dutton closed out his career with 1,126 points.

Strong Vincent will move on to play George Junior Republic in the second round of the 4A playoffs Thursday at a site and time to be determined.
