Butler Twp Police9:58 p.m. Feb. 8 — Luke M. Studevant, 31, of Butler was caught allegedly shoplifting $276 in merchandise at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. He is charged with retail theft.

Slippery Rock PoliceFriday — Police charged a Pittsburgh man with being nearly three times the legal limit for alcohol following a traffic stop last week for going the wrong way on Midway Alley near Cornish Drive.The suspect, Stephen H. Wood, 21, was stopped shortly before 2 a.m. Feb. 3. Police said he smelled of alcohol and admitted having a “couple” beers at the local bar.Wood was arrested after a series of field sobriety tests.A breath test subsequently showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.238 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.Wood is charged with driving under the influence and driving the wrong way on a one-way street.

Butler County Sheriff’s OfficeTuesday — William R. Konar, 48, of Butler was charged with submitting a concealed carry license application Feb. 6 that included answers about his criminal record that were not truthful and were rejected by the Pennsylvania Instant Check System that is run by the state police.Konar is charged with unsworn falsification to authorities.

State Police, Butler8:51 a.m. Wednesday — Delaney K. Gagen, 18, of Butler was hurt when he lost control of his car and struck a tree along Glenwood Road just north of Henricks Road in Center Township.Gagen, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries. His car had to be towed. Police cited him for disregarding traffic lanes.The Unionville Volunteer Fire Department and Center Township road department employees assisted at the scene.7 p.m. Tuesday — An unknown shoplifter tried to make a fraudulent return after allegedly stealing $80 worth of plates from the JC Penney Store, Clearview Mall in Center Township.Tuesday — Brenda Lee Sinchar, 52, of Center Township was arrested on felony and other charges in a suspected fraudulent return scheme at the Boscov’s store at Clearview Mall in Center Township.Police allege Sinchar since January had been taking store merchandise, which she had not paid for, and returning it for a refund. She was caught in the act on Saturday, police said.Sinchar provided police with a written confession, according to court documents. In all, police said, she took $1,786 worth of merchandise that she returned to the store.She was arrested and arraigned Tuesday on a felony charge of retail theft and misdemeanor charges of theft by deception and receiving stolen property. She was released on her own recognizance following arraignment.Tuesday — Police charged a West Virginia man with passing a counterfeit $20 bill at the Wendy’s fast food restaurant at Clearview Mall in Center Township.Cody R. Howard, 25, formerly of Slippery Rock, on Nov. 13 ordered three double bacon cheeseburgers, which he paid for with the bogus bill, according to court documents.But when the order was ready, Howard was gone. An employee notified police after discovering the fake money.Another employee recognized Howard and identified him as the suspect who passed the counterfeit bill. That employee, police said, attended high school with the suspect.Police on Feb. 6 interviewed Howard at the Butler County Prison, where he was being held on unrelated charges. He admitted passing the phony money.The defendant claimed he received the bill “in exchange for smaller cash denominations from a patron” at a Pittsburgh bar.Police charged him with misdemeanor counts of forgery and theft by deception.2:10 p.m. Sunday — A mother and daughter were caught allegedly shoplifting more than $800 worth of clothing from the Boscov’s store at Clearview Mall in Center Township.10:30 a.m. Friday — Timothy J. McConahy, 37, of New Castle was allegedly caught red-handed trying to cheat on a drug test at the State Probation & Parole Board office on Sunset Drive in Center Township.A probation officer told police that he found McConahy with a bottle of presumably “clean” urine hidden in a small bottle taped between the suspect’s legs.He is charged with furnishing drug-free urine.3:54 a.m. Friday — Shawn W. O’Rourke, 50, of Harrisville was arrested on charges he was more than twice the legal limit for alcohol when he crashed his car on Prospect Road near English Oak Road in Franklin Township.Police said O’Rourke, who initially blamed someone else for driving the car, appeared impaired while they spoke to him, according to court documents. He admitted that he had been drinking.A breath test later showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.191 percent, documents said. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.The suspect was arraigned on charges of driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license-DUI related, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving. He was released on $5,000 unsecured bail following arraignment.
