School board members on Tuesday:

Announced they will commission a new demographic study of the school district. The former study’s results were forecast until the 2017-18 school year. The study, which predicts future district needs based on growth trends and other factors, will cost about $15,000.

Approved the retirement of longtime high school teachers Charlesa Fassinger, a gifted education facilitator and French teacher, and Diane Iman, a business education teacher. Board member William Pettigrew, who retired three years ago after 24 years as district superintendent, made the motion “with regret.” Board President Dayle Ferguson called the women “amazing teachers and amazing people.”

Heard Superintendent Wesley Shipley report that the surface for the new girls softball field at the Centennial School property will be delivered from Atlanta at the end of the week. He also said bids for turf on the multiuse field along Doc’s Way will be opened on Feb. 23. He said four turf companies attended a recent prebid meeting.
