Man arrested after staggering on road

BUTLER TWP — A 38-year-old man was arrested Tuesday morning after nearly getting run over by several vehicles while staggering along a road.

Butler Township police caught up to Rastis O. Marcy of Center Township and found him allegedly impaired and in possession of illegal prescription drugs and a stolen Rice Krispies treat.

He also had an unusual request for officers.

Marcy told police that he was on his way to a methadone clinic and “begged officers to take him to receive his treatment,” according to court documents.

Police eventually charged him with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, public drunkenness and retail theft.

This was not Marcy’s first brush with the law. A two-time felon, he was arrested last month in Butler for allegedly breaking into vehicles. That case is pending in Butler County Court.

A call shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday for a man reportedly looking into unoccupied vehicles at the Sheetz convenience store on New Castle Road led township police to Marcy.

But before taking him into custody, documents said, officers saw him walking and reeling into oncoming traffic on Hindman Road near Goettler’s Beer Distributor.

Several vehicles nearly struck him, police noted in their complaint.

He told police he was headed to the methadone clinic after visiting a friend. After officers turned down his request for a drive to the clinic, they called his girlfriend while trying to get someone to pick him up.

She apparently declined.

“(She) advised officers that Marcy has been in trouble in the past for breaking into cars and drug use,” according to a police affidavit.

The suspect was arrested and searched. Police said they found him with a cellophane wrapper containing nine gabapentin tablets and 14 clonazepam pills.

The search also turned up a “giant Rice Krispie treat,” documents said, which Marcy allegedly shoplifted from the Sheetz store.
