Hegedus' triple-double lifts Gremlins

Craig also scores 29 as Karns City topples A-C Valley

Emily Hegedus recorded a triple-double with 21 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists as the Karns City girls basketball team rolled to a 70-46 win over A-C Valley Friday night.

Mackenzie Craig added 29 points and 12 rebounds and Alyssa Gibson pitched in 11 points for the surging Gremlins (16-5).

Karns City led 34-21 at the half.

Ellie Thompson led A-C Valley (12-7) with 18 points.

Moniteau 45, Redbank Valley 30 — The Warriors' defense pitched a shutout in the first quarter, leading 17-0, and cruised to a win.

Alazia Greaves scored 13 points and Kristina DeMatteis added 11 for the Warriors (18-3).

Sara Hull also had eight rebounds.

Union 44, Keystone 21 — Lexey Shick scored 17 points and Frankee Remmick also had a big night, contributing 12 points and 11 rebounds in the Damsels' rout.

Shick also had seven boards for Union, which led 14-3 after the first quarter.

Boys Basketball

Ian McElroy scored 12 points as Karns City jumped out to a big halftime lead and cruised past A-C Valley 58-35.

Chandler Turner added nine points and 12 rebounds.

The Gremlins (14-6) led 34-15 at the half.

Eric Dodd pitched in nine points and Noah Pollock had seven assists for Karns City.

Eddie Stevanus scored 10 to lead the Falcons.

Moniteau 71, Redbank Valley 45 — Lake Pry scored 33 points and also had five assists as the Warriors rolled.

Josh Adamson scored a career high 21 points and Jake Jewart had nine assists.

Deer Lakes 71, Freeport 59 — Ben Beale scored 19 points and Evan Schaffhauser added 18, but the Yellowjackets couldn't sustain a hot start in a loss to the Lancers.

The defeat cost Freeport (15-7, 10-2) a share of the section title. Indiana claimed first in the section with an 11-1 record.

The Yellowjackets led 18-6 after the first quarter, but Deer Lakes (11-10, 6-6) surged ahead thanks to a 46-point second half.

Knoch 52, Armstrong 40 — P.J. Gourley set a Knoch single-season record for free throw shooting percentage at 88.4 as the Knights closed the season with a win.

Knoch finished 13-8 overall and 5-7 in the section.

Franklin 65, Slippery Rock 43 — Ryan Dutton scored 15 points to lead the Rockets.

Grove City 80, George Junior 70 — Brayden Martin scored 15 points to lead four Eagles in double digits.

Kameron Patterson added 14 points, Isaac Thrasher 12 and Martin Beatty 11 for Grove City (16-5, 12-1).

Avonworth 70, Summit Academy 52 — Colby Jaggon scored 20 points as the Knights closed the regular season with a win.

Omar Coker scored 18 points and Tyree Gholston 11 for Summit Academy.
