Breen scores 30 in CWNC win

Sam Breen scored 30 points and has now hit for 68 in her last two games as the Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic girls basketball team outlasted Peters Township, 48-38, Saturday afternoon.

Breen is now averaging 23.5 points per game for the surging Trojanettes (18-2), who host Knoch Thursday in the section finale.

Central 58, Grove City 45 — Abby Fulkerson scored 16 points, but the Eagles fell in this non-region game.

Halle Culmer added 10 points for Grove City (8-11), which will travel to Conneaut Thursday for a big region game with playoff implications.

Indoor Track and Field

Liz Simms won the 800-meter run (2 minutes, 26.48 seconds) and was part of the 1,600- and 3,200-meter relay teams that also claimed first place finishes for the Butler girls track and field team at the Mount Union High School meet Sunday.

Alexis Leech won the 400 and was also a part of the 1,600 relay team along with Maegan Emanuel and Maddie Tonini that finished with a time of 4:14.00.

The 3,200-meter relay team of Simms, Erin LeMay, Mariah Geibel and Emma LeMay finished in 10:09.95.

Tabetha Wilbert placed first in the triple jump (32 feet, 5 inches) and Lexi Hopper won the high jump (5-0).

On the boys side, the Butler 1,600-meter relay team of Chris Karenbauer, Chris Zidek, Logan Parker and Cody Reddick placed first.

Slippery Rock runners set records — Ryan Putorti set two school records in the 200-meter dash (23.93 seconds) and in the 60-meter dash (7.60) for the Slippery Rock High boys at a meet at the SPIRE Institute Friday.

Seth Beels was fourth for the Rockets in the triple jump at 38 feet, 5¾ inches.

On the girls side, Brady Dalton placed fourth in the girls 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.58. She was also on the 800-meter relay team with Sierra Nagy, Samantha Harriett and Emiley Weber that set a school record with a time of 1 minute, 55.25 seconds.
