CALL OF DUTY — Sgt. Vernon Sarvey says farewell to his 7-month-old granddaughter, Bernice Silvis, and his wife, Elvira, in 1991. Sarvey was part of a platoon of the 630th Transportation Medium Truck Company, the first Army reserve troop in Butler County to be called to active duty. The platoon was on its way to Saudi Arabia, via Fort Dix, N.J.
