Big 4th quarter lifts SV, 61-41

Seneca Valley owned the fourth quarter against West Allegheny, outscoring the host Indians 16-2 to close a 61-41 boys basketball victory Monday night.

Payton Skalos paced the Raiders with 17 points, Marcus Might and Chris Hart both scored 11 and Mark Smathers added 10.

Seneca Valley improved to 9-7 overall with the win.

A-C Valley 66, Tidioute Charter 42 — The Falcons (4-10) received a double-double from junior forward Jeff Ginn, who scored 15 points and had 13 rebounds.

Kody Wolfe added nine points, eight assists and 10 steals and Joe Manculich 12 points for A-C Valley.

Freeport 78, Summit Academy 69 — The Yellowjackets’ win streak reached seven games as Evan Schaffhauser (24) and Ben Beale (22) combined for 46 points.

Kevin Lynch added 13 points for Freeport (11-5).

Summit Academy (4-10) was led by 32 points from Steven Pigford.

Girls Basketball

Lauren Wasylson scored 18 points and Nicole McCloud added 10 in Mars’ 45-40 road win at Carlynton.

The Planets’ overall record is now 11-5.

CW North Catholic 58, Burrell 30 — The Trojanettes (14-2, 8-0) remained undefeated in section play with this home victory.

Sam Breen scored 25 points for CWNC.

Slippery Rock 52, Conneaut Area 20 — The Rockets led 33-10 at halftime and cruised to this road victory.

Steph Croll scored 12 points in the win and Sedona Campbell added 11.

Hickory 42, Grove City 38 — Abby Fulkerson scored 17 points, but the Eagles’ second-half rally fell short.

Grove City (7-8, 3-3) trailed 27-20 at the half.

Hannah Santom added 11 points for the Eagles.

Pine-Richland 50, Seneca Valley 39 — The Raiders (6-11, 2-4) hung with the undefeated Rams until late in this section contest.

Freeport 51, Highlands 43 — Jenna Manke’s double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds sparked the Yellowjackets (11-5, 7-1) to their sixth consecutive win.

Sidney Shemanski tallied 12 points in the win.

Deer Lakes 39, Knoch 37 — The game was tied at 28 entering the fourth quarter, but the Knights (4-11, 2-5) fell at home when Deer Lakes’ Anna Solomon sank a jumper at the buzzer.
