SR girls reel off 11th straight win

Sedona Campbell scored 18 points as the Slippery Rock High girls basketball team won its 11th straight game with a 67-38 win over Meadville Thursday night.

Jenna Whitmer and Elena McDermott each added 11 points for the Rockets.

Campbell also had seven rebounds.

Slippery Rock used a hot start to put the game out of reach. The Rockets outscored Meadville 33-15 in the first half.

Freeport 57, Valley 12 — Kim Mixon led the way for the Yellowjackets with 12 points as Freeport rolled again.

The Yellowjackets led 34-4 at the half.

Mars 60, Kiski Area 25 — Lauren Wasylson scored 20 points and Nicole McCloud added 16 in this rout for the Planets.

Girard 38, Grove City 35 — Hannah Santom scored 19 points, but the Eagles were edged by Girard.

Abby Fulkerson added 12 points for the Eagles (7-7).

North Hills 50, Knoch 21 — The Knights (4-10) fell in this non-section matchup.

Jess Bowen scored 21 points for the Indians and Anna Treser added 17.

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 77, Deer Lakes 20 — Kylie Huffman scored 18 points as the Trojanettes (13-1, 7-0) continued to roll with another lopsided section win.

Tess Myers and Cassie Foster each added 13 points and Sam Breen 12 for North Catholic.

Hockey

William Scurci's hat trick ignited Mars to a dominant 5-1 victory over Hempfield at the Baierl Ice Complex.

The Planets (5-8-1) had 41 shots on net to just 23 for the Spartans.

Hunter Reimer totaled one goal and three assists for Mars and Keaton Hanna scored once.

Tyler Spreng earned the win in net by making 22 saves.

Swimming

John Wilson set a Butler High School pool record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.36 for the Knoch boys in a 97-77 loss to Northgate.

Knoch swims its home meets at the Butler pool.

Wilson also won the 100 freestyle and was on the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay that also won for the Knights.

On the girls side, Brooke Zukowski and Aryanna Napora were individual winners for Knoch in a 92-88 loss.

Luke Montag, Tiffany Carlson, Jason Hansotte, Matthew Corlew, Cami Tack, Patt Atchison and Ally Arbana were top shooters for Butler in an 800(56x)-799(56x) loss to Hempfield.
