Freeport boys win 6th straight game

The Freeport boys basketball team continued its torrid play of late with a 71-52 win over Deer Lakes Tuesday night.

It’s the sixth consecutive win for the Yellowjackets (9-5, 5-1) and their fifth straight section triumph.

Ben Beale has been spearheading that charge, as he did again against Deer Lakes with 18 points.

Kevin Lynch added 17 points and Isiah Bauman 15 points for Freeport, which will host Summit Academy Friday night.

Hampton 76, Mars 56 — Playing without Robby Carmody, who sat out because of injury, the Planets dropped this section clash.

Andrew Recchia and Michael Carmody each scored 16 points to lead Mars (10-4, 5-1).

Ben Lewis added 11 for the Planets.

Grove City 59, George Junior Republic 47 — Logan Lutz scored 17 points to lead four Eagles in double digits as Grove City picked up a huge region win to remain undefeated.

Martin Beatty added 13 points, Kameron Patterson 12 and Brayden Martin 10 for the Eagles (9-4, 6-0).

Moniteau 58, North Clarion 47 — Lake Pry scored 24 points as the Warriors used a big first quarter to dispatch North Clarion.

Moniteau led 17-6 after the first.

Pry, though, did most of his damage in the second half. He scored 20 of his 24 points in the final two quarters to help Moniteau maintain its lead.

Pry also had seven rebounds.

Jake Jewart added 10 points and five rebounds and Jared Lominski 10 points and five boards for Moniteau.

Franklin 66, Slippery Rock 31 — Sean Northcott led the Rockets with 10 points.

Slippery Rock (4-9) fell behind 32-13 at the half.

Karns City 64, Forest 24 — Chandler Turner scored 17 points to lead four Gremlins’ in double digits in this rout.

Noah Pollock added 12 points, Eric Dodd 11 and Jacob Friel 10 for Karns City, which led 27-8 at the half.

Turner also had 10 rebounds and Pollock 10 assists for the Gremlins (10-4).

A-C Valley 47, Cranberry 44 — Kody Wolfe scored 16 points and added five steals in this Falcons’ win.

Joe Manculich added seven points and 11 rebounds and Russ Carr pitched in nine points, five steals and six boards for A-C Valley.

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 48, Avonworth 26 — The Trojans improved to 11-4 overall and 5-0 in section play.

Girls Basketball

Frankee Remmick scored 25 points as Union rolled past Clarion-Limestone 70-34.

Lexey Shick added 19 points and Hannah Atzeni 14 for the Damsels, who led 47-17 at the half.

Hockey

Freeport was outshot 50-26 in an 8-0 loss to Bishop McCort, which scored six of its goals in the second period.

The Yellowjackets fell to 5-8.
