County woman hit, killed by car in Fla.

Moniteau grad worked at school

A 24-year-old West Sunbury woman died Sunday after she was struck by a car in Florida.

The accident occurred in Bradenton where Ashley Hasychak was spending the school year teaching speech pathology to elementary students.

Hasychak’s parents, Ronald and Robin Hasychak, said Pennsylvania State Police delivered the news personally at their home, and they know little about the investigation in Florida.

According to a report from Florida Highway Patrol, Ashley Hasychak was walking across U.S. 41 near 55th Avenue West at 12:49 a.m. Sunday when she was struck by a 2011 Lincoln Town Car driven by Gary Moses, 54, of Bradenton. Hasychak later died at Blake Medical Center. The report says police do not believe the crash was alcohol-related.

The police report also does not say whether Moses has been charged with any crimes connected with the accident, but indicates that the Florida Highway Patrol has assigned both a crash investigator and a homicide investigator to the case.

Her parents said they were told the police investigation will take two or three weeks. And because it occurred in Florida, the funeral arrangements have not yet been set. They will be held here at Geibel Funeral Home.

Hasychak was a graduate of Moniteau High School, where she was prom queen in 2010. She also played volleyball and was on the track team.

She graduated from Clarion University with a degree in speech pathology. In July, she moved to Florida to take the job — a one-year commitment — with the Jessie P. Miller Elementary School in the Manatee County School District.

Ronald Hasychak said his daughter did not know anyone from that area.

“That’s how she was … adventurous. She was smiling ear-to-ear when she went,” Hasychak said. “By the end of her first day of work she had made plans to do something with someone. She made friends very easily.”

Scott Boyes, the principal of the elementary school, said Hasychak’s “bubbly” personality is what he remembers most about her.

“I remember meeting her for the first time. She was just full of life and excited about her new career,” Boyes said. “She had such a bubbly personality and made friends very easily.”

Hasychak seemed to like Florida and her job — she was good with children, her father said. But still, she returned home several times this year for Thanksgiving, Christmas and to be in a wedding. Her boyfriend, Chad Kiser, still lives in Clarion. Ronald Hasychak said when his daughter returned to Florida after Christmas break just a couple weeks ago she still hadn’t announced if she was planning to continue living there or move back.

In addition to her parents, Ashley Hasychak has two sisters, Kristen Hasychak, 27, of Zelienople and Taylor Hasychak, 19, who is attending Gannon University.
