Cousins Hull, Campbell enjoy rare matchup as foes

SLIPPERY ROCK — For Sara Hull and Sedona Campbell, it was business as usual.

For their families, it was a little bit more.

Moniteau senior Hull and Slippery Rock senior Campbell are cousins. They faced each other on the basketball court Saturday night for the first time since eighth grade.

“We don’t text each other all of the time, but we’re close. We’re family,” Campbell said. “It was fun seeing her out there.”

“When we were younger, we’d go up against each other a lot,” Hull said. “Then, being in different school districts, that all changed.”

Hull had seven points, five rebounds and a pair of assists in the Warriors’ 61-51 loss. Campbell had 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Both girls are playing for successful teams that are contenders in their respective districts. Moniteau plays in District 9, Slippery Rock in District 10.

“I think it’s cool that we’re both on good teams,” Hull said. “When we’re not playing, I’ll go watch Sedona’s game. When they’re not playing, she’ll come watch mine.”

That doesn’t happen often due to conflicting schedules.

“Only a couple of times,” Campbell said.

Campbell admitted that Hull “used to beat me pretty good” when they were younger.

“Then I grew bigger and Sara went more toward softball,” Campbell said. “They’ve had a lot of success there, too. We root for each other.”

Except for Saturday.

“This wasn’t about me and her. That wasn’t a big deal to me,” Hull said. “This was about me trying to help my team win a game.”
