Carpenter nets 34 in Rock victory

Lexi Carpenter poured in a career-high 34 points as the Slippery Rock University women's basketball team edged East Stroudsburg 70-66 at Koehler Fieldhouse in East Stroudsburg Saturday afternoon.

Carpenter's 34 points were the eighth most scored in a game in program history and the most by any player in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference this season.

Carpenter scored 32 points against Clarion Jan. 11 and is averaging 33 points in her last two games.

The Rock's win over East Stroudsburg featured eight lead changes and six ties. Neither team led by more than eight points.

Brooke Hinderliter added 13 points and also had nine rebounds and three steals for The Rock (8-9, 5-6).

Butler County Community College 79, Westmoreland Community College 48 — Christina Davis scored 23 points and Butler High graduate Julia Baxter added 21 points and 14 rebounds for the Pioneers (9-7, 2-0).

Karns City grad Saydie Moore added 11 points.

Baxter also had six steals and three blocks.

The Slippery Rock University men's basketball team held the highest scoring team in the PSAC to a season-low output, but still lost 62-53.

The Warriors scored just 22 points in the first half as The Rock led by eight.

ESU, however, went on a 17-7 run in the final six minutes to pull away for the win.

Christal Malalu scored 17 points and added 14 rebounds to lead SRU (10-7, 6-5).

Westmoreland 93, BC3 78 — Garret McHenry scored 32 points and Chris Pipkin added 19 points and 15 rebounds in the Pioneers' loss.

Brendan Record added 11 points and Kaden Rock 10 for BC3 (0-17, 0-2).
