Mars gets huge victory

Carmody scores 33 as Planets dump Chartiers Valley, 72-66

Robby Carmody scored 33 points as the Mars boys basketball team rallied in the second half for a huge home section win over Chartiers Valley, 72-66, Friday night.

The Planets trailed 38-28 at the half and 51-49 at the end of three quarters.

Carmody scored 19 of his points during the second-half rally.

Ben Lewis added 18 points and Andrew Recchia 10 for Mars (10-2, 5-0).

Hampton 67, Knoch 60 — Austin Hannes scored 23 points, but the Knights dropped another tough section game.

Antonio Ionada killed Knoch, scoring 29 points for the Talbots (9-5, 3-2).

The Knights led 13-11 after the first quarter, but fell behind 36-28 at the half.

P.J. Gourley added 17 points for Knoch (6-6, 1-5), which has lost four in a row and five of its last six.

Freeport 74, Derry 29 — Ben Beale continued his scoring barrage with 24 points and the Yellowjackets jumped out to a 58-17 lead at the half in this rout.

Evan Schaffhauser added 13 points and Isiah Bauman 11 for Freeport (8-5, 4-1).

Clarion-Limestone 89, Karns City 69 — Noah Pollock scored 23 points, but the Gremlins got off to a rough start, falling behind the Lions 41-16 at the half.

Ian McElroy added 14 points for the Gremlins (9-4).

Moniteau 65, Cranberry 41 — Lake Pry scored 25 points and also added eight rebounds to lead the Warriors.

Jake Jewart added 17 points, six assists and six steals and Jared Lominski chipped in nine points and 10 boards.

Moniteau led 27-17 at the half and pulled away in the final two quarters.

Jewart was also 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

Union 62, Forest 46 — Lucas Bowser scored 16 points as the Golden Knights earned this KSAC win.

Gavin Hawk pitched in 12 for Union.

Hickory 49, Slippery Rock 42 — Ryan Dutton scored 13 points, but a third-quarter slump doomed the Rockets.

Slippery Rock led 26-25 at the half, but scored just four points in the third quarter and never recovered.

Grove City 73, Franklin 58 — Kameron Patterson scored 22 points as the Eagles keep on winning.

Logan Lutz added 15 points and Martin Beatty 12 for Grove City (8-3, 5-0).

The Eagles jumped out early, leading 25-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Clarion 80, A-C Valley 47 — Kody Wolfe and Jeff Ginn each scored 10 points in this Falcons' loss.

Eddie Stevanus added seven points and seven rebounds for A-C Valley.

Greensburg Central Catholic 77, Summit Academy 62 — Coby Jaggon scored 19 points and Steven Pickford added 13, but the Knights fell behind 44-22 at the half and never recovered.

Girls Basketball

Kristina DeMatteis scored 16 points and Emma Bair had a huge all-around game as Moniteau rolled past Cranberry 55-36.

DeMatteis also had nine rebounds.

Bair scored seven points — all in the second half — and added 17 rebounds, four blocks and five assists.

Alazia Greaves also scored 14 points for the Warriors (10-1), who will take on Slippery Rock (8-1) Saturday.

A-C Valley 59, Clarion 41 — Ellie Thompson scored 20 points to lead the Falcons.

Olivia Boocks added 17 points and eight rebounds and Kylee Eaton 11 points and eight rebounds for A-C Valley.

Karns City 83, Clarion-Limestone 25 — The Gremlins opened up a 30-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 56-8 at the half in this KSAC rout.

Mackenzie Craig scored 25 points and also added eight rebounds as four Karns City players cracked double digits.

Emily Hegedus scored 22 points, Livia Andreassi 12 and Alyssa Gibson 10.

Gibson also had six steals for the Gremlins (7-5).

Union 52, Forest 34 — Lexey Shick continued her strong season months after ACL surgery with 19 points as the Damsels overcame a slow start to douse the Fires.

Union trailed 16-10 after the first quarter, but pulled away in the second half, outscoring Forest 29-13 after the break.

Shick also had nine steals and six rebounds.

Frankee Remmick added 13 points and Hannah Atzeni 12 points for Union.

Private Schools

Michaella Roth scored 17 points, picked up seven steals and five assists, but the First Baptist Christian girls basketball team dropped a 51-39 decision to Portersville recently.

Alexis Barnhart contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds for FBC while Katelyn Gavinski had five points and six rebounds.
