Too generous

Year after year, Butler County taxpayers give millions and millions to the Butler County Community College. For 2017 it’s $5 million.

What do they do with all this money? There are satellite campuses in the surrounding counties — are we supporting them, also?

My kids both graduated from a state university. I got Parent Plus and student loans so they could go. When my 15-year-old granddaughter is ready I will be there to help her for whatever college she chooses. If it’s BC3, then I’ll gladly give my money to help her through.

But I have no use for BC3 at this time in my life. I don’t understand why I have to continue to pay Butler County taxes towards the support of something I have no connection or need for.

If you have a child or children who want to go to college, there are ways out there to get help, other than reaching in my pocket.

There are scholarships and hardship case funds available, there are lots of ways to get money for college, hey, a novel idea might even be to get a job to make some money towards the tuition, books and whatever other expenses that might be involved.

If you agree with me, don’t tell me you agree, call your three county commissioners and tell them. They are the only ones who can change things. We can tell them by voting them out, this doesn’t seem to have worked real well. Three new commissioners in 2016 and they are still padding the pockets of BC3. They have made a few improvements in the county budget but until they cut back on what we give BC3 for a gift, they aren’t making many points with me!
