[naviga:h3]Jamie Foxx to host ‘Beat Shazam’[/naviga:h3]

PASADENA, Calif. — Jamie Foxx is turning game-show host.

The Oscar-winning actor will host Fox TV’s “Beat Shazam,” an interactive game show based on the song-identification app Shazam.

The game show’s producers include Mark Burnett of “Survivor” and “The Voice.”

Foxx will preside over “Beat Shazam” as teams of two compete against the clock and other contestants to identify hit songs. The team with the highest score will end up competing with the Shazam app for a cash prize.

“Beat Shazam” is intended to be a “big summer event” for Fox this year, Fox Television Group chief executive Gary Newman told a TV critics’ meeting.

[naviga:h3]FX signs production deal with Glover[/naviga:h3]

The FX television network has locked up Golden Globe winner Donald Glover, but there will be a wait for new episodes of his comedy “Atlanta.”

FX said it had signed a deal with Glover for more “Atlanta” episodes and to develop other shows. The series about the rap industry in the Southern city won the Golden Globe last weekend as best television comedy, with Glover best actor in a comedy.

New episodes won’t be available until 2018, however. FX agreed to the delay because Glover has a movie role upcoming.

Another popular FX series, “American Crime Story,” also won’t be back until next year. It will be a story about Hurricane Katrina and is being shot in New Orleans where, because of hurricane season, there’s a limited period of time where filming can be done.

FX is tolerant of lengthy delays in series. “Fargo” is about to return from a hiatus, and “Louie” returns whenever star Louis C.K. feels like making new episodes.

“Given the choice between having it on schedule and having ... happy, committed talent and have it good, we’ll take it later and take it good,” FX Networks chief John Landgraf said.

[naviga:h3]CW network returns 7 shows next year[/naviga:h3]

Award-winning shows like “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and “Jane the Virgin” may bring more plaudits than viewers to the CW, but that’s OK for the niche network’s chief executive.

They were among seven programs the CW announced would be back for another season next fall, including the now-teen-aged “Supernatural.”

The programs, along with the CW’s comic-book based shows, give the CW a calling card. Even without great ratings, they have another life online and that’s becoming more important for the CW as a business, he said.

The series “Supergirl,” “Arrow,” “The Flash” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” will also return, the CW said. “Supernatural” will be back for its 13th season, and Pedowitz said there’s no end in sight.

The network also said that the one-season NBC series “Constantine” is being reimagined as an animated series on the CW’s digital network, with real-life star Matt Ryan as the voice of the his character.
