Slippery Rock owned the second and fourth quarters, outscoring visiting Hickory 31-13 in those periods as the Rockets posted a 50-36 girls basketball win Thursday night. Sedona Campbell scored 13 points and had six rebounds to lead Slippery Rock (8-1, 4-0).

Jenna Whitmer added 12 points and Steph Croll drained three treys and finished with 11 points.

Mars 76, Franklin Regional 59 — The Planets overwhelmed the Panthers with four players reaching double digits in points.

Tai Johnson dropped 29 points, Lauren Wasylson had 18, Bella Pelaia 14 and Nicole McCloud 11.

Mars improved to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in section play.

Freeport 51, Burrell 37 — The Yellowjackets broke open a close game by hitting the Bucs with a 17-4 run in the third period.

Jenna Manke managed a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Sidney Shemanski added 18 points for Freeport (8-5, 5-1).

Shaler 42, Seneca Valley 39 — The Raiders (4-9 overall) dropped to 1-3 in section games with this road loss.

Swimming

Both Knoch (1-4) teams swam to their first win of the season as the boys topped Deer Lakes 92-74 and the girls beat the Lancers 100-58.

The boys received first-place finishes from John Wilson in the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle.

Lindsey Fanton sparked the girls’ effort with victories in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly.
