SV, Butler wrestlers post big wins

Jason Geyer earned a pin in 25 seconds at 113 pounds and Alex Fischer (145) got one in 50 seconds as the Seneca Valley wrestling team downed Mars 53-21.

Drake Church (220) and Kevin Meeder (heavyweight) also got pins for the Raiders.

Noah Hunkele (106) and Alexander Hornfeck (126) earned pins for Mars.

Valley 60, Summit Academy 24 — Tyler Stein (195), Jake Virtue (113), William Colbert (138) and Nikko Vonivego (220) all earned pins for Summit Academy.

Boys Basketball

Ben Beale erupted for 25 points to lead Freeport to a 56-52 road win over West Shamokin.

Beale’s effort included five 3-pointers. Isiah Bauman added 10 points for the Yellowjackets (7-5).

A-C Valley 58, Venango Catholic 48 — The Falcons (2-8) were sparked by a 17-5 run in the second quarter.

Freshman guard Russell Carr scored a game-high 21 points for A-C Valley and Kody Wolfe chipped in 18.

Clarion 57, Moniteau 48 — Lake Pry scored 20 points and also had 10 rebounds, but the Warriors got off to a slow start and couldn’t recover in this KSAC loss.

Jake Jewart added 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists for Moniteau (5-6), which had its three-game winning streak snapped.

Girls Basketball

A 12-6 deficit in the fourth period was the difference in a 41-36 road loss for Karns City (6-5) against North Clarion.

Emily Hegedus (13 points), Alyssa Gibson (10) and Mackenzie Craig (9) combined to score all but four of Karns City’s points.

Bowling

Freshman Chris Huff led all bowlers with a 629 series as the Butler boys swept Mars 7-0.

Huff had games of 223 and 219.

Nick Huff rolled a 620 with a 240 high game and Shawn Marcellus also had a 607 series with a top game of 214.

Daniel Schell led Mars with a 598 series and games of 223 and 221.

The Butler girls also swept Mars 7-0.

Nicole Nebel rolled a 552 series (210 high game) and Mercedes Belch a 537 series.

Allison Bruce led Mars with a 515 series.

Indoor Track and Field

Butler’s Noah Beveridge won the mile and the 3,000 meters over a strong field as the Golden Tornado boys opened the indoor track season with a TSTCA meet at Edinboro.

Ryan Marcella medaled in the 60, and 200 meters, 4x200 and 4x400 relays. Cody Reddick medaled in the 400, 4x200 and 4x400, Cade Gratzmiller in the triple jump, 4x100 and 4x400.

Also medaling for Butler were Chris Karenbauer in the 4x200, Brett Brady in the mile, Bill McCune in the shot put, Aden Dressler in the 3,000 meters and distance medley, Camden Seybert and Steve Patterson in the distance medley, Tim Porter in the 4x400 and distance medley.

The Tornado also competed in an open high school meet at Slippery Rock University. Medal winners included Nathen Baker in the long jump, pole vault and 4x200, Chris Zidek in the high jump, Dante Grenci in the pole vault and high jump, Josh Bonetti and Mitchell Long in the 4x200, Logan Parker, Chris Weir and Rob Natili in the 4x400.

Private Schools

Alexis Barnhart scored 25 points and grabbed 19 rebounds, but First Baptist Christian dropped a 41-33 girls basketball decision to Evangel Heights.

Michaella Roth scored eight points in the defeat.
