Dutton leads Rockets to much-needed win

Carmody hits for 42 as Mars beats Montour

Ryan Dutton had a monster game for the Slippery Rock High boys basketball team with 28 points and 14 rebounds as the Rockets rolled past Oil City, 64-46.

Slippery Rock jumped out to a 16-5 lead after one quarter and put the game away with a 16-8 edge in the fourth.

Dutton scored 26 of his points in the first three quarters.

Luke Brandon pitched in nine points and 11 rebounds for Slippery Rock.

Mars 92, Montour 77 — Robby Carmody scored 42 points and had 18 rebounds as the Planets won a huge home section game against the highest-scoring team in the WPIAL.

Montour came in average 89 points per game, but the Planets (7-2, 3-0) took a page out of its book with an explosive offense led by Division I prospect Carmody.

Ben Lewis and Ben Perdziola each scored 12 points and Cade Hetzler pitched in 11 for Mars, which has scored 180 points in its last two games.

Grove City 51, Hickory 41 — Kameron Patterson scored 13 points and Isaac Thrasher added 12 as the Eagles remained undefeated in region play.

Grove City (6-3, 3-0) led 19-15 at the half and opened up a nine-point lead by the end of the third quarter and cruised.

Freeport 74, Yough 32 — The Yellowjackets got 24 points from Ben Beale in this rout.

Evan Schaffhauser pitched in 15 points and Kevin Lynch contributed 12 for Freeport.

Moon 53, Knoch 46 — Austin Hannes scored 19 to lead the Knights.

Knoch trailed most of the game, but cut the Moon lead to two in the fourth quarter, but could never wrest away the lead.

Karns City 66, Redbank Valley 43 — Noah Pollock scored eight of his 15 points in a big third quarter for the Gremlins in this KSAC win.

Karns City outscored Redbank 23-7 in the third to put the game away.

Chandler Turner led the Gremlins with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Ian McElroy added 14 points.

Moniteau 48, Union 23 — Lake Pry scored 26 points as the Warriors smothered the Golden Knights.

Union's three leading scorers each had five points as Moniteau built a 30-10 lead at the half.

Ross Tenney added 10 points and Jake Jewart contributed eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals for the Warriors.

Summit Academy 93, Serra Catholic 78 — Tyree Thomas scored 35 points and Steven Pickford added 23 as the Knights upset Serra Catholic.

Summit Academy (2-7, 2-2) led 43-41 at the half, but put the game away with a 27-9 third period.

Girls Basketball

Kristina DeMatteis and Alazia Greaves each scored 21 points as Moniteau rolled past Union, 64-36, in this KSAC battle.

DeMatteis also had 13 rebounds for Moniteau (8-1, 5-0).

Lexey Shick paced the Damsels with 13 points and Hannah Atzeni added 10.

Moniteau got off to a slow start, but outscored Union 41-21 in the second half.

Karns City 62, Redbank Valley 44 — Emily Hegedus scored 24 points and the Gremlins' defense held Redbank to just 11 points in the first half.

Alyssa Gibson added 11 for Karns City (6-3), which led 51-24 after three quarters.

Haley Scherer pitched in with 10 rebounds for Karns City.

A-C Valley 61, Keystone 24 — The Falcons had three players in double digits in this rout.

Cami McNany and Ellie Thompson each scored 16 points and Annie Viertel added 10 for A-C Valley (5-3, 3-2).

Olivia Boocks pitched in seven assists for the Falcons, who have a week off before hosting Clarion next Friday.
