KC girls handle Falcons, 52-40

Karns City opened its girls basketball game against visiting A-C Valley Wednesday night with a 25-11 run in the first quarter, paving the way to a 52-40 KSAC-South win for the Gremlins.

Emily Hegedus scored 19 points and had nine rebounds for KC (5-3), Alyssa Gibson dropped 12 points and Mackenzie Craig 10.

The Falcons (4-3) were led by 15 points from Ellie Thompson and 10 from Kylee Eaton.

Moniteau 60, Redbank Valley 28 — Alazia Greaves and Kristina DeMatteis both scored 20 points for the Warriors (6-1).

Emma Bair totaled 11 rebounds and six blocks.

Keystone 68, Union 36 — Lexey Shick scored 18 points to lead the Damsels (1-7), who were outscored 36-15 in the second half.

Boys Basketball

Kameron Patterson scored 11 points as Grove City edged region foe Sharon, 35-34.

Grove City (5-3, 2-0) led 21-19 at the half and 32-26 after three quarters.

The Eagles held off a rally by the Tigers (5-4, 1-1) to remain unbeaten in region play.

Bowling

Mercedes Belch rolled a 626 series to spark Butler’s girls to a 7-0 sweep of Shaler at Perry Park Lanes.

Nicole Nebel contributed a 567 series and high game of 225 for the Golden Tornado (5-0).

Butler’s boys also swept the Titans, with Nick Huff tallying a 588 series and single game of 218.

Zac Twentier shot a 566 series and game of 214 for Butler (5-0). Chris Huff added a 218 game.

Wrestling

Cade Leighty (106 pounds), Ty Gross (160) and Kevin Meeder (heavyweight) earned pins for Seneca Valley in a 56-18 win over Pine-Richland.

Alexis Barnhart scored 18 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead the First Baptist Christian School girls basketball team to a 47-29 win over Bethel Christian recently.

Michaella Roth had 16 points and five steals and Nicole Hartman contributed six points.
