McElroy's 40 not enough for Karns City

Carmody hits 1,000 career points for Mars

Ian McElroy scored a career-high 40 points, but a Karns City rally fell short in an 83-78 loss to Northgate at the West Shamokin Tournament in high school boys basketball action Friday night.

McElroy scored 23 points in the second half and was 8-of-11 at the line.

The Gremlins (5-3) trailed 32-10 at one point, but rallied to take a brief lead with 1:20 remaining in the fourth quarter, 76-75.

Northgate closed the game on a 7-2 run to secure the win.

Noah Pollock added 15 points and nine assists and Chandler Turner pitched in 12 points and eight rebounds for Karns City.

The Gremlins will next be in action Tuesday against A-C Valley.

Park School (N.Y.) 73, Mars 55 — Mars' junior Robby Carmody surpassed 1,000 career points, dropping in 22, in this loss at the Elmira (N.Y.).

Ben Lewis added 18 points for the Planets, who return home Tuesday to begin section play with a game against West Allegheny.

Erin Danik scored 18 points and also had 11 rebounds, but Seneca Valley fell 49-44 to Ursuline Academy (La.) at the KSA Disney Classic in Orlando, Fla.

McKenna Gross added 17 points for the Raiders.

Mars placed fourth out of 38 schools at the West Mifflin Holiday Tournament this past week.

The Planets had three second-place individuals. Alex Hornfeck dropped a 9-7 decision to Penn Hills' Justin Perkins in the 126-pound finals, Jake Richardson lost a 10-0 decision to Central Catholic's Dominic Means in the 138-pound final and Nick Schriver was pinned by Blairsville's Jerry Moore in the 195-pound finals.

Noah Hunkele took seventh for Mars at 106 pounds, Isaiah Johnson was eighth at 182 and Justin Petrilena was eighth at 170.
