SV boys hold on for 69-64 triumph

Seneca Valley’s boys basketball team possessed a 22-point lead at halftime and held on for a 69-64 victory over Cumberland Valley in the final day of the Peter Sauer Memorial Tournament at Shady Side Academy on Thursday.

Chris Hart scored a team-high 19 points for the Raiders (4-4) while Payton Skalos dropped 12 points and Nate Trzeciak 10.

Skalos was named to the all-tournament team.

Karns City 69, Clarion-Limestone 57 — The Gremlins broke a fourth-quarter tie by going on a 25-13 run to end the game on the first day of the West Shamokin Tournament.

KC (5-2) received 22 points from Ian McElroy, 19 points and six assists from Noah Pollock and 12 points and nine rebounds out of Chandler Turner.

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel (Md.) 60, Mars 51 — Robby Carmody and Ben Lewis scored 21 and 16 points, respectively, in this loss at the Elmira (N.Y.) Tournament.

Knoch 64, Eastern High (D.C.) 47 — Mac Christy scored 20 points and Austin Hannes added 16 as the Knights won the consolation game of the Alexandria (Va.) Tournament.

Knoch lost earlier in the day, 43-41, to Oakton Academy.

Slippery Rock 46, Mercer 37 — Ryan Dutton paced the Rockets (2-4) with 19 points at the Mercer Tournament.

Portersville Christian 64, A-C Valley 44 — The Warriors opened up a 15-point lead by halftime in this road win.

Eddie Stevanus scored 11 points for A-C Valley (1-5), Joe Manculich had nine points and eight rebounds and Kody Wolfe nine points.

Graham (30 points) and Harbison (10) combined for 40 points for Portersville.

Eden Christian 56, Freeport 54 (OT) — The Yellowjackets were outscored 7-5 in the extra period at their own tournament.

Evan Schaffhauser scored 20 points for Freeport (4-4). Ben Beale had 14 points and Gavin Skradski scored 12.

Frankee Remmick’s double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds sparked Union to a 41-33 win over Fairview at the Mercer Tournament.

Lexey Shick scored 14 points and Hannah Atzeni 10 for the Damsels (1-6).

Karns City 37, Oil City 20 — KC outscored the Oilers 12-3 in the first period of this game at the Oil City Tournament.

Emily Hegedus and Mackenzie Craig both scored 14 points to pace the Gremlins (4-3).

Moniteau 51, Hazleton 46 — The Warriors won the championship of the Punxsutawney Tournament, with senior Kristina DeMatteis finishing with 14 points, 12 rebounds and six steals. She earned Tournament MVP honors.

Emma Bair added 10 points for Moniteau (6-1).

Riverside 35, Freeport 28 — A 17-7 deficit in the third quarter did in the Yellowjackets (5-4) at the Riverside Tournament.

Mars 66, Connellsville 50 — The Planets (6-3) were too much for the Falcons at the Hempfield Tournament.
