Knoch enjoying 5-1 start

Austin Hannes scored 18 points as the Knoch boys basketball team opened up the Mount Vernon (Va.) Tournament with a 56-49 win over Christ Chapel Academy Tuesday night.

Jackson McKee added 16 points and Mac Christy 13 for the Knights.

Knoch led 26-25 at the half.

The Knights (5-1) will play Oakton Academy at 5 p.m. today.

Penn Hills 69, Grove City 50 — Isaac Thrasher and Martin Beatty each scored nine points, but the Eagles couldn't overcome a slow start in a loss at the New Castle Tournament.

The Eagles (3-3) fell behind 23-13 after the first quarter and 38-24 at the half.

Logan Lutz pitched in eight points for Grove City.

Norwin 47, Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 42 — The Trojans (5-3) fell in the opening game of the Gateway Tournament.

North Catholic will play Brashear in the consolation game today.

Girls Basketball

Erin Danik scored 33 of Seneca Valley's 40 points and also grabbed 14 rebounds in this 64-40 loss to Mansaquan (N.J.) at the KSA Disney Classic in Orlando, Fla.

Manasaquan came into the day ranked No. 16 in the country in the latest USA Today poll.

West Mifflin 57, Grove City 41 — Hannah Santom scored 15 points and also had 10 rebounds and five steals, but the Eagles fell at the Elizabeth Forward Tournament.

Abby Fulkerson added 13 for Grove City (4-4), which will play at 4:45 p.m. today in the consolation game.
