Thompson's 24 key A-C Valley win

Ellie Thompson scored 19 of her game-high 24 points in the second half to help the A-C Valley girls basketball team break open a tight and physical game on the way to a 63-50 Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference win over Union Wednesday night.

The Falcons clung to a 28-27 lead at the half, but outscored Union 35-23 in the final two quarters.

Olivia Boocks added 14 points and seven assists, Kylee Eaton scored 13 and Cami McCany 10 for balanced A-C Valley (4-2, 2-1).

Lexey Shick led Union with 20 points. Hannah Atzeni contributed 13 points for the Damsels.

Mars 59, Montour 51 — Lauren Wasylson and Tai Johnson combined for 18 points in the fourth quarter as the Planets rallied to win.

Wasylson finished with 16 points for Mars (5-1) and Johnson 13.

Nichole Sommers also scored 13 and Bella Pelaia added 12.

The Planets trailed 38-35 heading into the fourth quarter, but scored 24 points in the frame led by Wasylson and Johnson.

Mars will host Pine-Richland tonight.

Freeport 51, Highlands 33 — Jenna Manke had a huge game for the Yellowjackets with 14 points and 14 rebounds as Freeport rolled over Highlands.

Sidney Shemanski added 13 points and Samantha Clark pitched in 10 points for the Yellowjackets.

Ashlyn Jonczak paced Highlands with 15 points.

Freeport led 26-13 at the half.

Slippery Rock 30, Girard 28 — Sedona Campbell scored 15 points and also pulled down nine rebounds as the Rockets rallied from a 16-11 deficit at the half for this region victory.

Macy McCall added nine points for the Rockets (5-1, 2-0), who have now won five straight.

Girard managed just 12 points in the second half.

Boys Basketball

Grove City struggled in the first half, scoring just 10 points in a 63-40 loss to Youngstown East.

Eight players scored at least two points for the Eagles (2-2) with Logan Lutz leading the way with eight points.

Riverside 76, Summit Academy 71 — Kyree Goldston scored 19 points and Colby Jaggon and Tyree Thomas each added 14 in the Knights' loss.

David Speicher scored 32 points for Riverside and hit eight 3-pointers. Riverside hit 14 treys as a team.

Swimming

Knoch's Matt Karenbauer won the butterfly and backstroke events and also helped the Knights' 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams to victory, but Hampton downed the Knights 95-73.

Knoch also dropped the girls meet, 98-80.

Nick Huff rolled a 638 series with a high game of 264 as the Butler boys swept North Allegheny 7-0.

Shawn Marcellus also had a strong night with a 603 series.

The Butler girls also earned a 7-0 sweep.

Nicole Nebel had a 594 series with a high game of 235. Ashley McCue had a 542 series for the Golden Tornado.

Both Butler teams are 4-0.
