Big 2nd quarter sparks A-C Valley

A-C Valley used a 24-11 run in the second quarter in defeating Brockway, 70-55, in high school girls basketball play Monday in Foxburg.

The Falcons (3-2) had two players tally a double-double. Junior Ellie Thompson had 25 points and 13 rebounds while sophomore Kylee Eaton managed 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Freeport 58, Valley 5 — Sidney Shemanski scored 14 points as the Yellowjackets held Valley to just one point through three quarters in the blowout win.

Grove City 59, Sharpsville 38 — Hannah Santom scored 19 points and also added 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals in the Eagles' win.

Abby Fulkerson pitched in seven points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals for Grove City.

Barbie Cessar won a pair of individual races and was also part of a relay win as the Slippery Rock girls swim team downed Franklin 96-73.

Trent Donaldson was a double-winner for the Rocket boys team in a 99-45 loss to Franklin.

Ronan Miller and Clay Potochny each scored goals for Butler, but the Golden Tornado (3-8-1) dropped a 5-2 decision to Central Catholic.

Moon 5, Mars 3 — Nick Kiefer, Hunter Reimer and Zach Koerbel each scored goals for the Planets (3-7-1), who were out-shot 35-21 in the loss.

Kiski Area 6, Freeport 1 — Case Haberstroh scored the only goal for the Yellowjackets (4-6), who fell behind 6-0 in this defeat.

Bowling

Shawn Marcellus rolled a 591 series with a high game of 231 to lead Butler to a 7-0 sweep of Knoch.

Nick Huff added a 223 high game for Butler.

Joshua Rearick rolled a 532 series with a high game of 190 to lead Knoch.

Mercedes Belch had a 562 series to lead the Butler girls to a 7-0 sweep of Knoch.

Nicole Nebel had the high game for Butler with a 225 as part of a 558 series.

Chelsea Cimbala led Knoch with a 587 series and a high game of 238.
