Butler PoliceMonday — Stephanie L. Werner, 47, of Butler was charged with drunken driving stemming from a wreck Oct. 29 when her car struck two parked vehicles in the 200 block of East Brady Street. Her 9-year-old son was riding in the car when it crashed. No one was injured.Werner, who admitted she was driving the car that police found in the middle of the street, smelled of alcohol and acknowledged she had consumed three beers, according to court documents. She was arrested after failing field sobriety tests.A breath test subsequently showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.188 percent, or more than twice the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit.Werner is charged with driving under the influence, reckless endangerment and careless driving.Thursday — Police obtained an arrest warrant for Brandon S. Smith, 28, no known address, on charges he used three stolen bank and debit cards to purchase nearly $1,000 in merchandise from several stores.The owner of the cards, a teacher at the Butler Middle School, was parked near the school on East North Street in the parking lot behind St. Peter’s Church between 12:09 and 12:55 p.m. Oct. 25 when her car was broken into, police said. The cards were taken from the car.In all, someone smashed the windows of six teachers’ vehicles in the lot.The card owner later learned that the cards were used that same day at eight businesses, including the Kmart and Arby’s restaurant at Pullman Square, Island Tobacco on Pillow Street and two different Sheetz stores, all in the city or Butler Township.According to court documents, 13 transactions, totaling $960.82, were made with the three cards. Surveillance video from the Sheetz on New Castle Road allegedly showed Smith making several purchases with one of the victim’s cards.Police recognized the suspect from past dealings with him, documents said. Smith is charged with felony counts of access device fraud and receiving stolen property.

Butler Twp Police1:40 p.m. Monday — Michael P. Kominsky, 27, and Brittany L. Souders, 28, both of Butler were arrested after a suspected shoplifting incident at the Butler Commons’ Walmart.Police said the pair tried to walk out of the store with electronics without paying for the merchandise. They ran away before they could be stopped. Police, however, found them a short time later in the city.A search of Kominsky turned up a personal check that was stolen from a mailbox earlier in the day, according to a police report. He also was found with several empty stamp bags of suspected heroin, a Suboxone strip, syringes and a crack pipe.Kominsky and Souders both were arraigned on charges of retail theft. Additionally, Kominsky was arraigned on charges of receiving stolen property, possession of a stolen check and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.The defendants were placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail each following arraignment.5:32 a.m. Saturday — Clarissa Troup, 20, of Parker lost control of her car and crashed into an embankment on New Castle Road. She later fled the scene. Troup was cited for failing to immediately notify police of an accident, driving at an unsafe speed and not wearing a seat belt.4:05 p.m. Nov. 29 — Vehicles driven by Drew Hough, 33, of Fayette City, Fayette County, and Barbara Gerstel, 54, of Evans City collided at North Duffy Road and Seneca Drive.6:09 p.m. Nov. 28 — A vehicle driven by Vivian C. King, 70, of Butler struck another vehicle at Route 68 and Eberhardt Road. Police cited King for making an improper left turn. Elizabeth Catalano, 50, of Mars was the other driver.

Grove City PoliceMonday — Jeremiah J. Kloos, 19, of Grove City was arrested on several warrants but not before leading officers on a chase through woods near East Valcourt Road.Police had gone to a home looking for Kloos on three different arrest warrants the department had on him. He ran off but was eventually nabbed.Just two weeks earlier, he managed to elude police who tried to arrest him on the previous warrants. The defendant, while on a retaining wall behind Jean’s Super Subs on West Main Street, spotted the officers about noon Nov. 23 and dashed away, crossing Route 58 and into oncoming traffic.Kloos, for his latest brush with the law, was arraigned Monday on a charge of resisting arrest. He also was arraigned for the Nov. 23 incident on charges of resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and crossing a road without yielding to traffic.In the other cases in which he was wanted on arrest warrants, he also was arraigned on charges of trespass, criminal mischief and harassment stemming from a Nov. 17 incident, and simple assault and harassment in connection with an Oct. 11 incident.The elusive defendant is being held in the Mercer County Jail on $50,000 bail.Monday — Michelle Lee Davis, 45, of Parker was arrested on felony charges for allegedly stealing two checks totaling $9,978.94 on Nov. 18 from the Grove Manor Nursing Home, where she worked at the time.Davis was arraigned on felony charges of forgery, theft by deception and theft by unlawful taking. She was released on $15,000 unsecured bail following arraignment.

State Police, Butler1:20 p.m. Sunday — Andrew K. Bryson, 19, of Franklin, Venango County, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance at the S&S Market parking lot in Route 422 in Franklin Township.Nov. 29 — Michael J. Denny, 20, of Slippery Rock was charged with drunken driving in connection with a Sept. 2 traffic stop in Slippery Rock Township.Denny was pulled over, according to court documents, for several traffic violations about 12:15 a.m. after he turned from Kiester Road and traveled into the Ivy Apartments complex “at a high rate of speed” and without his taillights on.Police said the suspect smelled of alcohol and appeared impaired. He was arrested after failing field sobriety tests. A breath test later showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.135 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.Denny is charged with driving under the influence, DUI by a minor, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving, reckless driving, a lighting violation and not wearing a seat belt.5:04 p.m. Nov. 21 — A car driven by Brian J. Steckel, 59, of Gibsonia crashed into a tree along Route 138 just east of Helga Drive in Clay Township. He was cited for disregarding traffic lanes.8 a.m. Nov. 19 — Raymond A. Campbell, 74, of Butler lost control of his car and struck a utility pole along Center Drive just north of Route 68 in Oakland Township. The car continued through a yard and into a pine tree.Campbell’s passenger, Deborah L. Campbell, 65, of Butler, suffered an apparent minor injury Both occupants, who were wearing seat belts, left the scene in another vehicle.Police cited Campbell for hit-and-run, failing to immediately notify police of an accident, failing to stop and render aid or give information after an accident, driving too fast for conditions and disregarding traffic lanes.10:11 p.m. Nov. 9 — Alaina F. Sherrieb, 17, of Butler lost control of her car and crashed into a tree along Bullcreek Road just north of Smith Road in Jefferson Township. She was not hurt but the car had to be towed.Police said the teen faces a ticket for disregarding traffic lanes.

State Police, Clarion6:17 p.m. Saturday — A car driven by Roy J. Blackwell, 60, of Rimersburg struck two horses that got loose on Route 368 in Licking Township. Blackwell and his three passengers, all from Rimersburg, were not hurt.The fate of the horses was not immediately known. A telephone call to the investigating trooper was not returned.

State Police, Kittanning2:13 a.m. Tuesday — A 24-year-old Sarver woman, who police did not identify, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after she was stopped for speeding on Route 28 in East Deer Township, Allegheny County.Police said they clocked the woman’s car going 83 mph in a 55 mph zone.
