Authorities identify Cranberry man who died in crash

CRANBERRY TWP — A Cranberry Township man died this morning when his vehicle hit a guardrail on Powell Road and rolled over several times down an embankment.

Kyle Darville, 32, was driving a Volvo station wagon north around 2 a.m. when he struck a guardrail on his right near 2210 Powell Road. The vehicle then crossed the road and hit the left guardrail before flipping over several times down a hill, according to Cranberry Township police Sgt. Chuck Mascellino.

The man was partially ejected from the car through the driver’s side door. He was not wearing a seat belt. He died of head injuries, according to deputy coroner John Hanovick.

“It’s under investigation, but we believe speed was a contributing factor,” Mascellino said. He added that the road is not necessarily one prone to drivers going over the speed limit, which is 35 mph.

Police believe the man was headed home, but they don’t know from where he was coming. Police said the road was dry.

The station wagon was towed from the scene. Powell Road was closed for several hours following the crash and reopened at 6 a.m. The Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company, Cranberry Township Police and Cranberry EMS were at the scene.
