Rigged for the rich

A Republican U.S. House and Senate continue to support tax cuts for the rich, a $66,000 tax reduction on $1 million earned, already promised by President-elect Donald Trump. It’s déjà vu all over again.

A topsy-turvy tax code allows billionaire Trump to avoid paying any federal income taxes over 19 years. Those tricky tax loopholes benefitted citizen Trump at the expense of America’s treasury, adding countless millions to the wide disparity of wealth, known as income inequality. The Dow Jones industrial average is at a record high, more than 19,000. As Wall Street celebrated, hints of privatizing Medicare were leaked to the media. In 2016 and again in 2017, Social Security payments remained stagnant. Wells-Fargo added thousands of fictitious accounts to unsuspecting clients’ portfolios. Yet, no one went to jail, reminiscent of Wall Street Banks’ criminal activities in 2008, triggering the greatest economic depression in 80 years. While banks provide less than one percent interest earnings on investment accounts, they charge double-digit interest rates on credit card transactions. The system begs for more regulation. Not to be, as President-elect Trump recently promised, “For every regulation added, I will eliminate two.”

Middle and lower class Californians are leaving that state in droves, no longer able to cope with high housing costs and ordinary living expenses. To borrow a popular phrase from The Donald himself. “The system is rigged.”

And now the straw that broke the proverbial camel’s back. Trump’s scheduled court hearing in the case against Trump University has concluded. He settled out of court, paying a $25 million penalty, depriving America of the gory details.

The challenges ahead are daunting for a distressed middle class. Should voters rely only on deceptive partisan politicians and scripted radio/television pundits for the truth, they do themselves a horrific injustice. They will likely vote against their own best interests.

Lay down your arms, you middle-class Trump supporters and join the rest of struggling America in a conspiratorial “fall from grace.” The overwhelming evidence before you is indisputable.
