Man falls from roof

CRANBERRY TWP — A roofer working in the Spring Meadows housing plan off Mars Road on Thursday morning was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh after he fell two stories and landed on concrete.

Kevin Good, the owner of Good Remodeling in Pittsburgh, said the crew was just beginning the workday at 406 Rose Drive when the 33-year-old employee fell from the roof.

“He was on the roof and I don’t know exactly what happened, but he slipped or tripped or something and came down,” Good said.

The rain gutter on the top left of the home was damaged from the incident, and Good surmises that the man tried to grab it when he fell.

“He landed on the sidewalk,” Good said. “His hand and arm hit first and then he fell backward, hitting his head.”

Stacks of new shingles remained on the rooftop and a ladder against the rear of the house at 9 a.m., shortly after the injured man was taken away by medics from Cranberry Township Emergency Medical Services to a waiting helicopter.

The unnamed employee had worked at Good Remodeling since 2009, Good said.

“It was a freak accident,” Good said. “I wish I knew more about what happened.”

Mike Stephanie, who lives across the street from the home where the worker fell, said he was just leaving his house as emergency responders arrived on the scene.

“They just did my roof last week,” Stephanie said, “then they moved on to that job.”

He said the homeowners were not home at the time of the accident.

“It’s terrible,” Stephanie said. “I hope he’ll be all right.”

Good said the job will be on hold for now.

“We wish him a speedy recovery and godspeed,” he said.

The man’s name and condition were not available on Thursday.
