Zelie Xmas home tour set

Annual event is Saturday

ZELIENOPLE — The 24th annual Christmas Home Tour will be Saturday starting at 9 a.m.

Nearly a dozen homes decorated in a variety of styles will be opened for guests during the self-driving event, hosted by the Zelienople Historical Society.

“We’re completely sold out. We’re actually oversold,” said Elizabeth Simpson, the historical society’s director.

About 140 people are signed up for the tour. The normal maximum is 100 people.

“People like to go on homes tours,” Simpson said. “Our chairwoman, Marietta Reeb finds homes that have a really big variety of styles to suit everybody’s tastes.”

Reeb said the borough’s homes tour is “a little different” than other tours.

“We don’t advertise our homes until that day for safety reasons,” she said.

Featured homes will be in the borough, Harmony and Fombell.

Reeb said styles featured include small homes, mansions, log homes and moderate homes.

Maps and brochures will be distributed. The starting point and luncheon location will be outlined in the greeting letter given to paid ticket holders.

A catered luncheon featuring door prizes and a quilt raffle drawing will also be held.

The tour will benefit the Zelienople Historical Society’s ongoing preservation and maintenance projects.

“It’s for our routine maintenance and building funds,” Simpson said.

Reeb and Simpson said the tour is the historical society’s largest fundraiser.
