Alleged shoplifter found with suspected heroin

It was anything but a clean getaway for a woman who allegedly tried to steal dishwashing liquid at a Butler supermarket.

Not only was Jennifer N. Perdue caught hiding the $3 bottle of Dawn Saturday afternoon at the Friedman’s on West Brady Street, she was found with a large amount of suspected heroin and other drugs, police said.

A two-time drug felon, Perdue, 40, of Butler was arraigned that night on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and three misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance.

She also is charged with possession of a drug paraphernalia and retail theft, both misdemeanors. She is in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail.

Police were called to the store about 3:25 p.m. after the manager allegedly spotted the woman stuffing the merchandise down the front of her pants and stopped her, according to court documents.

But that wasn’t all she was hiding. Police said inside a makeup bag in her purse were 68 stamp bags of suspected heroin and a crack pipe.

Additionally, documents said, a search of the purse turned up a prescription bottle with an assortment of pills, including the anti-anxiety medication alprazolam and the sedative zolpidem.

A police affidavit noted that Perdue, who has a prior shoplifting conviction, is awaiting trial in Butler County in another shoplifting case.

A preliminary hearing on her latest charges is set for 1:15 p.m. Monday.
