Board OKs wells

Rex Energy to meet conditions

ADAMS TWP — The Wilson shale gas wells will move forward after the driller agreed to a list of conditions on Monday night.

The board of supervisors voted to approve the conditional use for the three Rex Energy wells, which will be at the intersection of Three Degree and List Hill roads.

Several residents have complained about the well, including the owners of an organic egg farm next to the Wilson property.

After Rex Energy presented plans to the planning commission last month, the commission voted to pass the matter on to the supervisors without a recommendation.

The planning commission recommended that Rex officials meet with concerned residents to answer their questions and hear their concerns.

On Monday night, township engineer Ron Olsen said that meeting took place at the state Department of Environmental Protection in Meadville, where eight Rex officials explained their drilling process, answered residents’ questions and agreed to provide air quality monitoring.

Olsen said he talked to the residents after the meeting.

“They were pretty satisfied,” he said.

The supervisors said in addition to the air quality monitoring and other, more traditional conditions, Rex must repair List Hill, Three Degree and Brownsdale roads if they are damaged during the development of the well pad.

Supervisors Chairman Donald Aiken abstained from voting because he did not attend the public hearing on the wells held on Nov. 1.

No residents spoke about the well during the public comment session at the supervisors meeting.
