Butler PoliceNov. 21 — Sarah R. Dodgson, 25, of Butler was charged with fraudulently using a credit card belonging to a YWCA resident while she was employed at the facility on West Cunningham Street.Dodgson is accused of making three transactions totaling $75 between Nov. 3 and 13 at local stores with the card, according to court documents. Store surveillance video helped identify the suspect. Police said Dodgson admitted that she used the card, but she refused to say how she obtained it.She is charged with three counts of access device fraud and one count of receiving stolen property.

Butler County Sheriff’s OfficeTuesday — Philip J. Romito, 59, of Clay Township was arrested in connection with a failed drug screening Nov. 18 at the county’s probation office. According to drug documents, his drug test showed the presence of marijuana and opiates.The suspect was taken to Butler County Prison for violating his probation. But while being booked, documents said, a syringe loaded with a suspected opiate-based liquid, fell from his possession.Romito is charged in the case with possession of drug paraphernalia.

State Police RangersNov. 21 — Cody Alan Neal, 23, of Evans City was charged with driving under the influence stemming from an incident Oct. 29 at Moraine State Park in Muddy Creek Township.A ranger while traveling Route 422 about 1:45 a.m. spotted a man vomiting out of the rear passenger side door of a vehicle parked on the side of the road, according to court documents.While at the vehicle, the ranger smelled a strong odor of alcohol and spoke to Neal, the driver. He was eventually taken to the state police barracks in Butler Township for a breath test. The test showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.147 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

State Police, ButlerThursday — Police reported they are investigating the recent break-in of an Oakland Township home. The occupant, a 53-year-old woman, was sleeping in the house on Mahood Road about 2 a.m. Nov. 16 when she was awakened and confronted the unknown burglar.The suspect took a shoulder bag and purse before fleeing out the back door.6:32 p.m. Wednesday — A sport utility vehicle driven by an Elk County man struck a deer on Route 28 north just south of exit 17 in Buffalo Township. Thomas P. Walter, 30, of Ridgway was not hurt but his SUV had to be towed.2:59 p.m. Tuesday — Grady Davis, 20, of Erie lost control of his car when a bald tire blew out, causing the vehicle to strike a guardrail on Interstate 79 in Lancaster Township. Police cited Davis for driving a vehicle with a faulty tire.4:05 p.m. Wednesday — A Massachusetts man lost control of his car and crashed into an embankment on Interstate 80 in Allegheny Township. Gerald L. Lancaster, 26, of Malden, who was not wearing a seat belt, was not hurt but his car ended up overturned. Police said he was cited for disregarding traffic lanes.Nov. 21 — Rebekah M. Schaelchin, 21, of Slippery Rock was charged with drunken driving after her car broke down Sept. 4 in Slippery Rock Township.Patrol troopers about 2:10 a.m. found Schaelchin and her disabled car on the side of Harmony Road. The vehicle’s engine, police said, appeared to be smoking.The officers stopped to check on Schaelchin, who indicated that she was all right. But while speaking to her, court documents said, police smelled a “strong odor” of alcohol on her breath. She also appeared impaired.She was arrested after failing field sobriety tests and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.20 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.Schaelchin was charged with driving under the influence, disorderly conduct, driving an unregistered vehicle, careless driving, disregarding traffic lanes and driving without headlights.Nov. 21 — Monday — Police charged Anthony L. Shaffer, 23, of Allison Park, Allegheny County, with drugged driving in connection with a traffic stop Oct. 15 in Brady Township.Police said they stopped Shaffer after noticing a burned out headlight on his pickup truck and a bicycle rack that was partially covering the license plate.Troopers smelled marijuana and alcohol coming from the vehicle while speaking to Shaffer according to court documents. He admitted having “a couple” alcoholic drinks but denied smoking marijuana. But after failing field sobriety tests, police said, he acknowledged smoking marijuana earlier that night. A search of the truck turned up marijuana and a marijuana pipe and grinder.He was eventually taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results were not included in the criminal complaint.Shaffer is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, driving with an obscured license plate, driving without working headlights and failing to notify authorities of a change of address.11:36 a.m. Nov. 18 — Kristiana R. Hannah, 26, of Slippery Rock was hurt when the SUV she was driving rear-ended a cargo van that was stopped on North Duffy Road at Cornell Drive in Center Township.Hannah, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered a minor injury. Police cited her for following too closely to another vehicle and the seat belt violation. Blue L. Murray, 44, of Slippery Rock, was the other driver.Nov. 17 — An unknown vandal in an SUV damaged a garage door at a home in the 300 block of Gilbert Road in Concord Township. The victim, a 30-year-old woman, described the suspect’s vehicle as a dark gray, older model Jeep Cherokee.9:45 p.m. Nov. 16 — A car driven by Leighton R. Horner, 67, of Ontario, Canada, struck a deer on I-79 in Worth Township.

State Police, Clarion5 p.m. Nov. 16 — An unknown thief stole a Parker woman’s handbag that she accidentally left behind in a shopping cart in the Walmart parking lot in Monroe Township.

State Police, Kittanning6:11 p.m. Thursday — A 54-year-old Slippery Rock man, who police did not identify, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after his vehicle got stuck in a ditch on Pony Farm Road in North Buffalo Township.6:21 p.m. Nov. 19 — A 28-year-old Kittanning woman, who police did not identify, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after a traffic stop on Route 28 north about two miles south of exit 18 in South Buffalo Township.During the stop, according to a police report, troopers learned that the woman’s passenger, Mark Dongilli, 31, of Kittanning, was wanted on a bench warrant out of Butler County. He was arrested and placed in the Butler County Prison for the warrant.4:56 p.m. Nov. 18 — A 37-year-old Punxsutawney, Jefferson County, man was found with 48 stamp bags of suspected heroin following a traffic stop on Route 28 north about two miles south of exit 18 in South Buffalo Township, according to police.The suspect, who police did not identify, was arrested for drug possession and driving under the influence. Police said charges are pending lab tests.11 a.m. Nov. 18 — Robert W. John, 58, of Kittanning Township was arrested after he allegedly kicked in a door and assaulted a 51-year-old woman at her home in Washington Township, Armstrong County. The victim suffered swelling to her face.John was arraigned on charges of simple assault and harassment. He is free on $5,000 unsecured bail.
