Trio of pageant winners advance

Women to compete for Miss Pa., Teen America

BUTLER TWP — Three women were selected to compete next year for Miss Pennsylvania and Miss Pennsylvania Outstanding Teen/America during the pageant Nov. 19 at the Succop Theater on Butler County Community College's campus.

Julia Wilkens, a senior at Temple University, was named 2017 Miss Butler County.

LeAnn Mae Penn, a senior at Slippery Rock University, was named 2017 Miss Moraine State.

Courtney Bearer was chosen 2017 Miss Butler County Outstanding Teen. She is a freshman at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School in Midland, Beaver County.

Contestants competed in interview, swimwear or sportswear, talent, evening gown and on-stage question categories.

The winners will go to Pittsburgh the week of June 10, 2017, to compete for the title of Miss Pennsylvania and Miss Pennsylvania Outstanding Teen.

In addition, Miss winners received a $500 scholarship and the Outstanding Teen winner received a $200 scholarship.

The pageants emcees were 2016 Miss Moraine State Lindsey Lenhart, 2016 Miss Moraine State Outstanding Teen Michaels Devore, and 2015 Miss Butler County Lyric Ackelson.

The pageant executive directors were Judy Hughes, Lucy Mudrick and Jessica Kennedy.
