Drugs, rifle found

SUMMIT TWP — A township man was caught with dozens of bags of suspected heroin and crack cocaine during a state parole check at his home last week, authorities said.

Thomas J. Rodgers, 50, was arraigned Friday on charges of felony and misdemeanor drug possession. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail.

State parole agents notified state police just before noon Thursday after they found a hunting rifle and what they believed was heroin and other narcotics inside Rodgers’ home on Old East Butler Road, according to court documents.

Police charged the defendant with having 46 stamp bags of heroin and three small bags of crack. He also had 46 prescription pills and four Suboxone strips without valid prescriptions.

Additionally, police said, he was found with two suspected crack pipes.

Troopers seized the drugs, contraband and rifle. Police noted that having the firearm is a violation of the defendant’s parole.

Butler County court records showed that Rodgers has a lengthy criminal history including three felony convictions — two for forgery in 2004 and 2008 and one for access device fraud in 2007.
