SV cross country gets 4th in Hershey

Seneca Valley's boys cross country team placed fourth at the PIAA Class AAA championship meet Saturday in Hershey.

The Raiders, who won the WPIAL team title last month, were the only squad from Western Pennsylvania to place in the top five. SV finished with 202 points. Council Rock North won the state title with 76 points. The Class AAA boys field included 239 runners.

Seneca Valley was led by sophomore Sam Owori's 30th-place finish in 16 minutes, 40 seconds. He was followed by Seth Ketler (34th), Trey Razanauskas (73rd), Christian Resch (90th) and Alex Dixon (120th).

Butler junior Noah Beveridge placed fifth overall at 15:59 to lead the Golden Tornado to 15th place in the team standings.

In Class AAA girls, Butler's Maggie Welty was 12th at 18:54.

Knoch's Max Freyermuth placed ninth in the Class AA boys race with a time of 16:47.

Junior Rylee Kopchak finished 26th (20:07) to help Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic's girls place seventh as a team in Class A.

Grove City senior tight end A.J. Turner caught eight passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns as the Eagles escaped a District 10 Class 5A semifinal with a 27-23 win over Fort LeBoeuf at Meadville High School's Bender Field.

Turner's first score came on a 20-yard pass from Kameron Patterson that put the Eagles up 14-3 in the second quarter.

The duo hooked up again in the third period for a 55-yard score, giving GC a 21-10 edge.

Grove City (10-1) will face Meadville (9-2) in the district championship game on Saturday.
