Worsley's demolition set for Nov. 2

Demolition of the fire-ruined Worsley’s building is tentatively set for Wednesday, according to city zoning officer and building code official John Evans.

A fire on March 11 caused heavy damage to the building, located on North Main Street at East North Street in downtown Butler.

AP Wise Excavating will demolish the building. Alvin Wise, the company’s owner, said in September that the demolition will take “four to six weeks depending on weather.”

AP Wise Excavating is currently doing demolition on the interior of the building.

“There’s issues that he wants to address on the interior before he brings the machine in,” Evans said.

The stretch of East North Street that the building is on will be closed during the demolition. The sidewalk and the row of parking spots in front of the building on Main Street also will be closed.

The owners initially hoped the building could be salvaged, but determined that option to be too costly.

“It’s kind of traumatic,” Cheryl Worsley said. “We’re all really sad. That’s been in our family since I was 3, and my dad (Albert Worsley), he passed away, but he would have been very upset about it.”
