Drug prevention program set

Activities for youth planned

Drug prevention is the theme for the upcoming Butler County Youth Leadership Initiative event.

This free event, which will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Butler Catholic High School Gym, 515 East Locus St., will feature a keynote presentation by Dialed Action Sports Team, as well as interactive discussions, team building activities and dinner — likely pizza.

The evening begins with the keynote presentation, given during a BMX bike stunt show.

After a break for dinner, attendees will split into three groups for discussions about people, places and choices.

Later when they join together, the children will participate in team-building activities and have a chance to meet community leaders.

Additionally, door prizes will be raffled throughout the evening.

This is only the second leadership initiative program, but in the future, leaders, such as Michael Liebler, executive director of Connecting 2 Tomorrow, or C2T, hope to hold events three times annually.

“We got a lot of positive feedback from the last one,” Liebler said. “None of the kids wanted to leave.”

The first one, held in June, focused on development of leadership skills. It featured a presentation by Butler County Commissioner Kevin Boozel.

The event, hosted by C2T, 4-H, Stand Tall and Justice Works Family of Services, is intended for children ages 12 to 17.

The Dialed Action Sports Team offers several assembly programs, one of which is drug awareness.

Participants must preregister to attend.
