Freeport falls out of playoff chase

Austin Romanchak's 4-yard touchdown run in the first quarter was the lone highlight for Freeport during the Yellowjackets' 44-7 Allegheny Conference loss to Keystone Oaks Friday night at Dormont Stadium.

The loss eliminated the Yellowjackets (4-4, 3-3) from playoff contention.

The Golden Eagles went ahead 14-0 thanks to quarterback Alex Smith. He scored on a 43-yard run and later found Quran Powe on a 40-yard scoring strike.

Romanchak's score cut the lead to 14-7, but Keystone Oaks (7-1, 6-0) followed with three more first-half touchdowns to put the game out of reach.

Wilmington 48, Slippery Rock 7 — The Rockets (3-6, 3-5) had a two-game winning streak snapped by the Greyhounds.

South Side 28, Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 14 — The Trojans (4-4, 3-3) put themselves in a precarious position in the Midwestern Conference race with a home loss.

CWNC needs a win against Freedom next Friday to make the playoffs.
